CASE STUDY: CASE STUDY: DAIKIN
A BREATH OF FRESH AIR
AIR CONDITIONING SPECIALIST DAIKIN INDUSTRIES HAS ADOPTED A NEW STORAGE APPROACH FOR
ITS MISSION CRITICAL BUSINESS APPLICATIONS
as four SSDs per controller can be used,
including SATA disks. In addition to faster read
speeds, SSD cache reduces performance
impact compared to spin-drive caches with
rapid warm up and less drive wear.
Configuring and managing SSD Cache
pooling is easy via the intuitive SANWatch UI.
Automated storage tiering optimises storage
performance and increases ROI by leveraging
high speed SSD for expedited access to hot
data while using affordable drives such as NL-
SAS for archiving purposes. To protect SSDs
and the vital data they store, EonStor DS
3000 systems offer SSD wear level indication
that provides users with accurate real time
SSD health info.
Daikin Industries Ltd., a global leading
air conditioning manufacturer with
headquarters in Osaka, Japan, has
adopted the Infortrend EonStor DS storage
family in order to implement the entire suite of
mission-critical business applications such as
ERP, database, VDI, virtualisation, and backup
in their Vietnamese operation.
Daikin is the developer of numerous
refrigerant volume systems and an innovator
in split system air conditioners. It has
operations in Japan, China, Australia, India,
countries in Southeast Asia such as the
Philippines and Vietnam, Europe, North
America, and South America.
Due to continuous business expansion,
Daikin's Vietnam operations started to
experience both impacted performance of
their business applications and insufficient
capacity in their storage system. After a
rigorous selection process, Daikin Vietnam
decided to replace its previous system with
multiple high-performance EonStor DS 3024
units. These storage devices feature highspeed
Fibre Channel (FC) interfaces and
Hybrid Drive technology to combine
SSD/HDD, providing better performance and
high capacity utilisation.
The new setup has three subsystems. The first
subsystem powers up Microsoft Hyper-V
technology for server and desktop
virtualisation, with more than 200 VMs (virtual
machines). The second subsystem runs the
ERP database system that uses Microsoft
Dynamic AX 2012. The third subsystem
supports backup of the company's missioncritical
business application data.
EonStor DS 3000 systems are designed for
all-SSD storage and support large high speed
SSD cache pools. SSD Cache speeds up read
performance for priority data, and boosts
cache pool capacities up to 6.4TB. As many
"EonStor DS 3024 offers us a great pile
of network storage at a very affordable
price. It also supports a choice selection of
high-performance data ports," said Mr.
Nguyen Nhat Linh, system administrator at
Daikin Vietnam.
All EonStor DS 3000 systems are excellent
platforms for database and VDI applications
thanks to ample computing power, and their
massive bandwidth serves to enhance media
editing and surveying jobs, freeing users from
bottlenecks. When looking to expand storage,
up to an extra 444 drives can be connected
easily using JB 3000 enclosures.
"EonStor DS storage family is the industry
price-performance leader with top rankings
in both SPC-1 and SPC-2. It delivers
superior IOPs, great capacity expansion, and
reliable performance to power missioncritical
business applications," commented
Thomas Kao, Senior Director of Product
Planning at Infortrend.
