Clyde is also well known as the home
of General James Birdseye McPherson, the
highest-ranking senior officer killed in the Civil War.
His childhood home, located on the corner of Maple
Street and McPherson Highway, is open for tours by appointment.
The Clyde Museum, a jewel of history and wealth of information, has
an extensive collection on Sherwood Anderson, an author who wrote
the short story collection “Winesburg, Ohio” in 1919. These stories
are loosely based on his years of growing up in Clyde. While
traveling around Clyde, it is evident that the city has embraced the
Winesburg theme!
