Woodville is known as the “Limestone Capital of
the World”. Limestone is the leading export of
the village. Martin Marietta, the only limestone
plant remaining there today, still actively
produces limestone. In fact, it ranks in the Top
10 among lime quarries in the United States.
Several famous people came from Woodville.
Woodmore High School graduate Jon Giesler
was an All Pro football player at the University of
Michigan and the Miami Dolphins. Another
Woodmore graduate, Col. Tom Henricks, was a
four-time NASA astronaut. The newest addition
to the Sandusky County Historic Barn Trail is
dedicated to Col. Henricks and is painted with
his photo and a space shuttle.
The Woodville Historical Museum is a must-see
for anyone wishing to learn more of the rich
history of this village. It is located on Main
Street along with specialty shops, the local
grocery store and home-town cooking at
several family-owned restaurants.
