Greenhouse: Can medical cannabis be a benefit to one’s health?
For those who don’t know what Greenhouse
is, Greenhouse is a medical cannabis
dispensary licensed by the State of
Illinois.
We provide top quality cannabis and cannabis-derived

How does medical cannabis work?
The human body contains a system
called the endocannabinoid system (ECS).
This system is made up of CB1 and CB2
receptors and is responsible for keeping
the body in balance and regulating many
of its functions. When a function in your
body needs regulation, such as when you
experience pain or anxiety, your body produces
endocannabinoids like Anandamide
and 2AG to aid in achieving balance.
This is where cannabis comes in. The
cannabis plant contains phytocannabinoids,
cannabinoids that also react with
the CB1 and CB2 receptors in your body
and help regulate the body’s functions.
The most common of these are THC and
CBD. Cannabis can be used to treat a
wide variety of conditions because it interacts
with a system that is directly related
to most of the processes that already
take place within your body.
Clinically proven treatment
with medical cannabis
The effectiveness of cannabis as an analgesic
and pain reliever continues to be
proven. It can also be used to reduce the
use of pain medications: A recent study
in the Journal of Pain found that patients
who use cannabis for chronic pain show a
64% lower rate of opioid use.
The state of Illinois has two programs
that enable access to medical cannabis.
The Medical Cannabis Pilot Program
allows patients to receive medical cannabis
if they have been diagnosed with one
of 41 approved conditions. Included in
the list are cancer, agitation of Alzheimer’s,
rheumatoid arthritis, PTSD, fibromyalgia

The Opioid Alternative Pilot Program
(is an option for patients who have been
or could be prescribed an opioid, based
on the medical standard of care. Patients
who are dealing with pain from a variety
of conditions, a recent surgery, or those
who simply would like to reduce their use
of opiates will now have access to medical
cannabis to help.
