with Andrew Natinsky
Andrew Natinsky is a
senior on the Highland
Park High School boys
basketball team.
When did you start
playing basketball?
I started playing probably
early in elementary
school, like first or second
grade.

What’s your
favorite thing about
basketball?
Being part of the team,
and the whole team aspect
of it. When you have
a group of guys that all
like each other and all
are friends, it makes your
whole experience with
basketball even better.
How do you prepare
for a game?
Our coaches scout
teams, so that helps us a
lot. We know what kind
of offensive actions will
work well, what defensive
actions will work. That
helps our game get better.
What’s your favorite
memory of playing
basketball?
It probably happened
this past season — we beat
Deerfield twice, and not a
lot of people thought that
we could do that. They
were predicted to win both
times, and we beat them
both times — and at Deerfield;
It was a great moment.
What is the best
advice a coach has
ever given you?
Probably just to keep
working. A lot of times this
season we’ve had some
games or tough times
where we’ve struggled a
lot, and our coach tells us
to keep working and keep
grinding. We were playing
our best basketball toward
the end of the season, and
that was because we never
stopped working and just
kept fighting.
Who is your favorite
athlete of all time?
It’s definitely Derrick
Rose. He’s a kind-of small
point guard, just like me.
His athletic ability and
his explosiveness is just
outstanding. He can just
jump so high and get to the
rim so easy, and I love that
about him. He’s so motivational,
especially with
[overcoming] injuries.
What do you do when
you’re not playing

basketball?
Hanging out with
friends, doing homework
or playing video games.
What’s your favorite
video game?
“NBA 2K,” of course.
If you could travel
anywhere in the
world, where would
you go?
Probably France or Italy
because I’ve heard so
many great things about
[them]. I’ve seen pictures,
obviously, and it just looks
so beautiful. It’s just a
great tourist attraction for
people, so probably there.
What is your favorite
movie of all time?
I have to go with “Step
Brothers.” It’s a classic
comedy movie.
