In early December of 2018, six of us got
onto a flight and headed off to Tribhuvan
Airport, Kathmandu, Nepal. We had a
Mission. We were on a Mission Trip.

This was my third mission trip to Nepal.
When I was last there three years ago,
nine months after a major earthquake,
there had been devastation, the air was
filled with smoke, and there was a lack of
fuel and medicine everywhere. This time
there was some development. China had
brought in some progress, especially in
transportation but the Nepali powers still
dominated the country. There were many
strongholds in Nepal and it was sad to see
the people trapped in spiritual blindness.
We visited Ree, her mother and grandmother
in their one-bedroom house near
the brick factory. When Ree was 12 or 13
years old, she was already working carrying
bricks. She has a brother who is a drug
addict and the whole family has been
caught in the web of his addiction. It was
the love of Christ in Ree and her sister that
was the undergirding foundation holding
the family together. This, however, was not
sufficient to break the family out of the
brother’s addiction and the family’s poverty.
Yet I saw the joy and peace on their faces;
but I also saw the pain in Ree’s eyes. I can
only pray for Jesus to help her brother and
family to break out of his destructive
addiction.
