Sparkling
Sparkling wine produced from outside
of the Champagne region can often
suffer from a lack of identity due to it
not having a common nomenclature
on which to hang its hat on.
Some other regions have successfully
done this, think Cremant, Prosécco
and Cava, but the majority of the
sparkling wine produced in the rest of
world remains nameless.
required local producers and importers to hitch up their pants and get serious.
Tempranillo is one of Spain’s fabulous red grapes
which is best known for the fine wines of Rioja.
Australian wine makers have fallen in love with
style, Tempranillo grown here is often bright and
abundant with blue and red fruit. For a different
style, you can try Spain’s Gran Reserva, which is
closer to the elegance of Pinot Noir.
Shiraz
The Northern Rhône Valley remains the
spiritual home of the variety, but it is here in
Australia, that Shiraz is the number one red
varietal, the number one exported varietal,
and the number one grown varietal.
In recent years, there has been a shift
towards cooler climate expressions, paired
with more balance in oak use, lower alcohol
levels and higher acidity. The wines are
expressive, deep and complex.
CABERNET
AND BLENDS
Cabernet Sauvignon is known as the king of all grapes and is one of
the two great Bordeaux grape varietals. Cabernet Sauvignon owes its
international success to is genes. It buds late in the season, with the
bunches forming loosely with the thick skin of the grapes is providing
resistance to disease and insects. Cabernet Sauvignon can be grown
in a wide range of climates around the world.
SOMMELIER SELECTION
KEEPING IT NOBLE
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet, Merlot & Riesling are often known as the Noble Grapes of
the world. The strength of Shiraz and Cabernet continue to make up the back bone of a red wine
list, but the meteoric rise of Pinot Noir is challenging this status. The resurgence in Chardonnay is
driven by both the quality and the variance in style and weight. Whilst Riesling is still the unsung
hero and we believe a must on any balanced wine list.
WINE IN CAN
INSIGHTS
+ BENEFITS
The biggest barrier to having canned wine in the past was packaging. Winemakers weren't sure how to
stop the beverage from corroding the metal, and they couldn't figure out how to maintain a good shelf life.
Wine cans now have a proprietary lining that was developed through extensive research to prevent the
beverage from touching the aluminium. Thanks to years of innovation, wine in a can now offers great
quality, and is being lauded for the convenience it offers. Looks like it's well and truly here to stay.
USAGE
It allows high quality wine
to be sold in venues and
areas that cannot permit
the use of glass.
CANS ARE THE LIGHTEST
WEIGHT BEVERAGE
CONTAINER AND HAVE A
LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT.
Wine in can
BENEFITS
BENEFITS
Wine in cans enables
venues the ability to
offer wine to consumers
on more occasions. In
a sustainable package,
wine in a can is a quick
and easy single serve,
enabling bar staff to be
more efficient.
RECYCLING
STORAGE
Storage is easier and
cans are considered
to have a superior
shelf life with no
light contamination.
Many people and companies
agree that cans are better
for the environment.
They contain an average of
68% recycled aluminium and
are easily recyclable.
RECYCLING MATTERS
In US studies: More than 80%
of consumer respondents said
the infinite recyclability of
cans matters to them.
Compared to
other beverage
packages,
consumers
prefer cans
BENEFITS OF USING CANS:
- Retains freshness
and carbonation
- Preserves distinct flavours
- Wine is protected in air-tight,
unbreakable and light-proof
packaging with no cork taint -
maintaining product integrity.
ACCORDING TO CONSUMER
SURVEY RESPONDENTS:
85%
“Cans effectively block out
damaging effects of light and
help preserve my wine’s flavour”
65%
