NEW COOPERS XPA
Coopers Extra Pale Ale is an easy drinking and
well-balanced ale that’s full of hop flavour.
Coopers is a brewing family. For six generations
we’ve been custodians of a proud legacy that
began in 1862 when Thomas Cooper brewed
his first batch of ale.
Intended originally as a tonic for his ailing wife,
this flavoursome and refreshing brew became
appreciated by neighbours and friends for more
than it’s ‘restorative’ properties.
As word spread and demand grew, Thomas
was soon in the business of brewing and was
known for producing an all malt brew and
sourcing the highest quality ingredients as he
believed when you only use 4 key ingredients,
that quality is everything.
Before Thomas passed away, he had handed over
the reigns of the Brewery to four of his children,
and so began a proud family tradition that has
continued in an unbroken chain of six generations.
The combination of traditional Coopers brewing
methods with cutting edge production
technology has helped us to grow our capacity
and deliver a consistent brew quality and flavour
to our consumers.
NATURAL CONDITIONING
Our ales get their unique Coopers flavour and
cloudy appearance through a process called
natural conditioning. To achieve this, we add
a small amount of live yeast to our beer just
before packaging it. This causes a secondary
fermentation inside the can, bottle or keg,
which carbonates the beer and eliminates
the need for any preservatives or additives.
This process lasts for two weeks, which is why
our ales and stouts have a ‘best after’ date,
rather than a ‘best before’ date.
THIS IS HOW WE ROLL
When the process of natural conditioning is
complete, the spent ale yeast falls to the bottom
of the bottle as a fine sediment.
To enjoy the complete Coopers experience,
we encourage people to roll their bottle before
opening it. This helps move the sediment through
the beer, unlocking its full flavour and imparting
the signature cloudy appearance.
