Sparkling
Sparkling wine produced from outside
of the Champagne region can often
suffer from a lack of identity due to it
not having a common nomenclature
on which to hang its hat on.
Some other regions have successfully
done this, think Cremant, Prosécco
and Cava, but the majority of the
sparkling wine produced in the rest of
world remains nameless.
WINES OF THE WORLD
For some, the selection of Sparkling wines can be challenging in wanting to make the ‘right’
impression, while others thrive in the opportunity to display their knowledge and comfort in
discussing the category. The popularity and growth of the Sparkling category in Australia has
required local producers and importers to hitch up their pants and get serious.
REGION
IN FOCUS
WESTERN
AUSTRALIA
Western Australian is the leading fine
wine producing state in Australia. The
region is now recognised as producing
some of the best, most distinctive and
diverse wines in the world.
It began back in the 1960s when
Western Australia wineries started
planting in the southwest, including
Margaret River and Great Southern.
Over the last 20 years, this rise to fame
has been cemented with the region
gaining the recognition it truly deserves.
Cabernet Sauvignon and red wine
blends were instrumental in putting
the region on the map. Chardonnay and
Sauvignon Blanc/ Semillon blends have
enhanced this reputation, which now
contributes to over 20% of the ultrapremium
market in Australia.
We have selected a range of wines to
help showcase a mix of the classic
expressions of varietals we all know,
along with some varietals that are
gaining in popularity from the region.
Our Wine Essentials
program represents a vast
array of Australian wine
regions and brands, from
the boutique, to the iconic.
TEMPRANILLO
EMERGING
VARIETAL
Tempranillo is one of Spain’s fabulous red grapes
which is best known for the fine wines of Rioja.
Australian wine makers have fallen in love with
the grape which is now grown in a number of
regions around Australia. Much to Australia’s
style, Tempranillo grown here is often bright and
abundant with blue and red fruit. For a different
style, you can try Spain’s Gran Reserva, which is
closer to the elegance of Pinot Noir.
Shiraz
The Northern Rhône Valley remains the spiritual home of the variety,
but it is here in Australia, that Shiraz is the number one red varietal,
the number one exported varietal, and the number one grown varietal.
In recent years, there has been a shift towards cooler climate
expressions, paired with more balance in oak use, lower alcohol
levels and higher acidity. The wines are expressive, deep and complex.
SOMMELIER
SELECTION
KEEPING IT NOBLE
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet, Merlot & Riesling are often known as the Noble Grapes of
the world. The strength of Shiraz and Cabernet continue to make up the back bone of a red wine list,
but the meteoric rise of Pinot Noir is challenging this status. The resurgence in Chardonnay is driven
by both the quality and the variance in style and weight. Whilst Riesling is still the unsung hero and
we believe a must on any balanced wine list.
WINE IN CAN
INSIGHTS
+ BENEFITS
The biggest barrier to having canned wine in the past was packaging. Winemakers weren't sure how to
stop the beverage from corroding the metal, and they couldn't figure out how to maintain a good shelf life.
Wine cans now have a proprietary lining that was developed through extensive research to prevent the
beverage from touching the aluminium. Thanks to years of innovation, wine in a can now offers great
quality, and is being lauded for the convenience it offers. Looks like it's well and truly here to stay.
USAGE
It allows high quality wine
to be sold in venues and
areas that cannot permit
the use of glass.
CANS ARE THE LIGHTEST
WEIGHT BEVERAGE
CONTAINER AND HAVE A
LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT.
Wine in can
BENEFITS
BENEFITS
Wine in cans enables
offer wine to consumers
on more occasions. In
a sustainable package,
wine in a can is a quick
and easy single serve,
RECYCLING
STORAGE
Storage is easier and
cans are considered
to have a superior
shelf life with no
light contamination.
Many people and companies
agree that cans are better
for the environment.
They contain an average of
68% recycled aluminium and
are easily recyclable.
