Police Reports
Felony charge for allegedly fleeing motorist
Nicholas W. Olsen, 28,
of 5828 Kenmore Ave. in
Chicago, was charged Feb.
26 with aggravated fleeing/attempt
to elude peace
officer, DUI-alcohol, reckless
driving, speeding: 26-
34 mph over posted limit,
operating an uninsured
motor vehicle and causing
an accident with property
damage.
According to police
reports, just after 1 a.m.
an officer on patrol travelling
northbound on
Everett Lane observed
Olsen’s vehicle travelling
Village, so it is a great opportunity
for us. I think it’s very important,
and I think it’s very wise of the
board, to extend this out so [Vernon]
can fill the remaining parcels and
make that a long-term win-win for
everybody.”
Police patrols increase
Earlier in the meeting, during Public
Comment, a couple of residents
spoke to the board members about
a recent string of car burglaries that
have occurred in the Village. After
they spoke, Mokena Police Chief
Steven Vaccaro addressed what the
police department is doing in response
to these crimes.
“We have added extra patrols on
our midnight shift … and all of my

reportedly struck a light
pole. Olsen attempted to
back up, reportedly striking
the officer’s vehicle
in the process. Olsen then
reportedly made several
more attempts to drive
forward and backward,
but the vehicle was stuck
on a patch of ice.
The officer ordered at
gunpoint Olsen and two
passengers in the backseat
of Olsen’s vehicle to show
their hands, and ordered
Olsen to turn off his vehicle
and hand over the keys.
While speaking with Olsen,
the officer reportedly
smelled a strong odor of

sure your garage door is closed.”
Vaccaro said some suspects have
been identified.

was charged with a felony
for the aggravated fleeing

Adult Detention Facility.

and her programs. This lack of
accountability is a direct contributor
to the decline in student test
scores. SMART performance goals
established in conjunction with
the board is critical to the district
catching up with our neighboring
districts.
Highly rated schools translate to
higher home values. It is time to
move our children and our whole
community forward. Providing our
teachers and all of our students
with superior resources and support
is essential in this process.
We need to expect more for our tax
dollars.
