came to the facility with an open mind, most of which discovered a career path they might not have thought of
pursuing before. Junior Achievement puts on the annual event across multiple school districts to give students the
opportunity to have open dialogue with people in the industry of their choosing. Groups of eight sat at a table to
listen to a mentor for roughly 10 minutes, asking questions and gaining insight. There were six individual sessions
and ‘Be Brave’ was the overall theme of the event.

Armed robbers apprehended

Bashaw and Innisfail RCMP have
charged two males with three separate
armed robberies in the Bashaw and
Innisfail, Ab., areas.
On March 9, 2019, at about 4:35 p.m.,
Bashaw RCMP responded to an armed
robbery at the Whistle Stop Gas
Station near Mirror, Ab.
On March 10 at about 1:40 p.m.,
Innisfail RCMP responded to an
armed robbery at the Fas Gas in Pine
Lake, Ab.
On March 11 at about 9:10 p.m.,
Bashaw RCMP responded to an armed
robbery at the BugTussel Bar in Alix,
Ab.
At approximately 10 p.m., shortly
after the robbery in Alix, Red Deer
City RCMP intercepted the suspect
vehicle placing the adult male passenger
under arrest.
The adult male driver was arrested
after a short foot chase.
Garnet Lawrence Benn (55) and
Ryan Wraight (37) , both of Red Deer,
Ab. has been charged with several
firearm charges, uttering threats and
possession of stolen property under
$5,000.
Both had been remanded into custody.
As these matters are now before
the court, no further details will be
available.

RCMP detachments, as well as the Red
Deer and Innisfail General
Investigation Sections all worked
together to bring these incidents to a
quick and successful conclusion,” says
Sgt. Bruce Holliday, Detachment
Commander of the Bashaw RCMP.
Copper wire and fuel thefts
Killam and Viking RCMP
responded to a break and enter in
progress at an oil field site in Flagstaff
County on March 6, 2019 at 6:53 p.m.
Two males were arrested following
a search in an open field for a White
Dodge truck.
The arrest would not have been possible
without the assistance of three
Flagstaff County locals.
Gregory Bader, 41, of Red Deer,was
charged with three counts of break
and enter to commit, five counts of
mischief over $5000, one count of theft
over $5000, one count of theft under
$5000, two attempted thefts, one count
of possessing break-in instruments,
one count of prowling at a dwelling
house, five counts of breaching conditions
of his recognizance, one count of
breach of probation order and five
counts for trespassing.
Fernando Barrett, 41, of Grande
Prairie was charged with one count of
breaking and entering with intent to
commit an indictable offence, one count
of possessing break-in instruments for
the purpose of committing and indictable
offence, one count of trespassing
and three counts of breaching conditions
of his recognizance.
Both suspects were held for a bail
hearing and remanded to custody
shortly thereafter.
The white Dodge Ram had been the
subject of many complaints from Jan.
11, 2019 until March 6, 2019 for causing
damages, stealing fuel and stealing
copper wire at four different locations
involving oil lease sites and business
and residence.
Furthermore, the subjects also
attempted to steal fuel at a residence
and completed the offence of fuel theft at
a business.
The estimated value of damages
caused is between $100,000 to $200,000.
The arrest of these two individuals
would not have been possible without
all of the public’s tips, calls of suspicious
activity and assistance in apprehending
them safely.
Fatal collision near Daysland
On March 10, 2019, at 8:30 a.m., Killam
RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision
at the intersection of Highway 13
and Highway 855, just east of Daysland.
An SUV was travelling southbound
on Highway 855 when it turned west
onto Highway 13 and collided with a
eastbound truck and horse trailer.
The lone 83-year old female from
Flagstaff County, Alberta and lone
occupant of the SUV was pronounced
deceased on scene.
The two occupants of the eastbound
truck suffered minor injuries. The

treated on scene
for their injuries.
Weather and
road conditions
do not appear to
be factors in relation
to this
incident.
The name of
the deceased
female will not be
released and no
charges will be
laid.
