in hood murdered a staff of

Adekanmi Adaramola.
Late Adaramola who was
in his 30s, was found in the
pool of his own blood at PPL
Bus stop along Lagos-
Badagry expressway, at
about 6am. He was said to
have gone to check on
someone before resuming
for the day’s job at the office.
When Vanguard visited
the scene, pallets of the
bullets shot at the father of
one were sighted on the
ground, with some parts of
mutilated body.
An eyewitness told
Vanguard that the deceased
was receiving a phone call
when the assailants shot him
at close range.
Late Adaramola’s widow,
Patience, told Vanguard
that she had no clue as to
why the perpetrators
decided to attack her
husband.
Narrating her last
moments with her late
husband, she said in tears:
“My husband left home
early today (yesterday) to
see someone before his
office resumption hour. He
worked with Glo network.
I do not know why these
men decided to kill him.
“ When the news filtered
in, we were told that a man
was attacked by gunmen.
I uttered a word of prayer
for God to spare the life of
the victim, without an
inkling that it would turn
out to be my husband”, she
said in tears .
When contacted, Police
Public Relations Officer,
DSP Bala Elkana,
confirmed the incident,
saying investigations had
begun to unravel the
perpetrators.
Elkana said: “He was
receiving a phone call
when the men attacked
and killed him. We do not
know the reason for the act.
Some eyewitness said that
it was an issue between
different cult groups but we
do not want to believe
such.
“We received the
complaint and investigation
has commenced; though we
are yet to make any arrest.
But we can assure the public
that circumstances
surrounding his death will
be unraveled.”
Shops, cars, motorbikes destroyed
in Lagos gas explosion fire

LAGOS—EXPLOSION from a
local gas station rocked Aguda
area of Surulere, Lagos, yesterday,
destroying buildings, cars and goods
worth several millions of naira.
Four vehicles and three motor bikes
parked in a mechanic workshop were
burnt, while a bungalow and a
mosque were partially affected by the
fire. Some residents sustained minor
injuries during the stampede that
ensued.
Vanguard gathered that the incident
occurred barely two weeks after the
gas station, located on Olatunde
Onimole Street by Censors Market,
opened for business.
Meanwhile, owners of the affected
shops were lamenting their losses,
claiming that they kicked against the
gas station being sited close to
residential buildings when it was
opened, but that the owner of the
building and most residents turned
deaf ears to their complaints.
One of them, Nnamdi Chionye,
said: “I lost all my goods in the fire.
When the gas station was opened,
we knew it was a disaster waiting to
happen. We complained but nobody
listened to us.”
While the fire was raging, another

Cultists kill 2 NYSC members in Bayelsa, injure one

SUSPECTED

Wednesday night, invaded a
building housing some National
Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members
at the Swali suburb of Yenagoa, and
shot dead two corps members, while
another was injured.
The deceased corps members were
identified as Popoola Oluwatobi, a
graduate of Obafemi Awolowo
University, OAU, an indigene of Oyo
State, and George Onokpoma.
While Popoola was killed on the
spot, Onokpoma was confirmed dead
at the Federal Medical Centre where
he was rushed to for treatment.
Vanguard learned that the attack
which occurred at about 10.30p.m. in
the densely-populated area, was
carried out by seven suspected
cultists.
A resident who spoke on the
condition of anonymity, said: “We
heard gunshot from the direction of
the Corps members’ room. One of
them was heard shouting “Jesus”
repeatedly and at the same time
asking what was their crime. Another

Anthony Gbenga is
responding to treatment.
“The command has
launched a manhunt for the
unknown gunmen,
investigations is ongoing.”

Lagos bizman accused of
stealing bank's $123,000
of fire.
He added that the fire at
Magodo affected part of the
building.
He said: “No fire is too big or
small. Effort should be made at
contacting the Fire Service, even
at the instance of a spark.”

Mwosu said the bank had

operated by the defendant at the
Agege branch of the bank.
He also stated that after the
defendant noticed the transfer
that was made to his account, he
did not notify the bank's
management but withdrew the
money from his company’s
account and converted it to his
use.
The prosecutor said: “The
defendant was later arrested
after management of the bank
traced the missing money to his
Company’s account and
reported the matter to the Police
which led to his arrest.”
The defendant pleaded not
guilty to the alleged offence.
After listening to the
submission of Opeyemi Bello,
the defendant’s counsel,
Magistrate Folashade Botoku
turned down the oral bail
application and ordered the
defendant remanded in prison
custody, with the case adjourned
till March 27 for trial.
