Windies success depends on its bowlers
Bowling would play a key
role if any team is to be successful
in the ICC World
Twenty20 starting Sept. 18,
2012. The West Indies would
be heavily dependent on three
bowlers to be economical.
Sunil Narine, Fidel Edwards
and Samuel Badree will have
to bowl 12 of the 20 overs and
if they can restrict the runs
made by the opposing team,
the West Indies batsmen will
simply do the rest to make the
team a successful.
Narine has proven that
he is capable of performing
at the higher level. Edwards
is experienced, very quick
at times and he can make
things difficult for batsmen
to score off his attack in his
type of cricket. Badree has
just entered the top level but
he has shown that he has the
correct approach and temperment
for this level. He bowls
tidily and with intelligence.
Windies supporters cannot
expect all their bowlers to do
well but those who fail with
the ball must be prepared to
carry their bats to score runs
and help the team.
Dwayne Bravo, Ravi Ram-
Phal and Andre Russell are
some of the other bowlers
who would to do their four
overs each if asked or at least
some of it. Bravo has tremendous
experience at the
IPL and he will have to take
the ball at crucial times and
make things occur positively
for the West Indies.
All the West Indies bowlers
are expected to perform well
but in reality only a few may
be outstanding in their four
overs. Stopping or avoiding
the flow of runs is essential
in Twenty20 cricket. It is vital
to have a few bowlers who are
capable of bowling tight.
Sammy’s Captaincy
to the Test Again
West Indies Captain
Darren Sammy will again
be under the microscope
examining the e order in
Eyes on Cricket
By George H. Whyte
which he brings his bowlers
into the attack. From time
to time, Sammy has shown
the dull part of his captiancy
and his lousy decisions.
West Indies management
and selectors may be well
advised to start grooming a
member of the team to lead
in the near future. Dwayne
Bravo is the vice captain
of the One-Day Internationals
and Twenty20 teams but
he is not involved in West
Indies Test cricket. This is
one of the reasons why a
captain must be groomed
forth with.
West Indies Batting
Strong for Twenty20
Inspite of the West Indies
batting so strong on paper
with Chris Gayle, Marlong
Samuels, Darren Bravo,
Dwayne Smith, Dwayne
Bravo, Andre Russell and
West Indies’ Sunil Narine bowls during a Twenty20
cricket match against New Zealand.
Kieron Pollard. Many big
hitters are in the line up but
the West Indies must ensure
that they bat out their alotted
20 (overs) and not get
bowled out in 15 or 17 overs.
They must ensure that the
overs are batted out. West
Indies have named four teen
players to tour Sri Lanka
from Sept. 18 to Oct. 7 for
the ICC world Twenty20.
The squad are as
follows:Darren Sammy
(captain), Dwayne Bravo
(vice captain),Darren Bravo,
Johnson Charles, Fidel
Edwards, Chris Gayle, Kieron
Pollard, Sunil Narine,
Ravi RamPaul, Andre Russell,
Dwayne Smith, Lendl
Simmons, Marlon Samuels
and Samuel Badree.
This squad is exceptional
and with the correct decision-making
by the captain,
the West Indies team should
have no problem winning
this world competition.
Team India carries the
greatest challenge but with
proper planning the West
Indies can upset India. Virat
Kohli, Suresh Raina and
Captain Mahendra Singh
Dhoni are the batsmen
poised to score heavily in
this Twenty20 competition
for India. The team that
plays better wins on any day
and preparation is key to
gaining success. The West
Indies team has a huge task
ahead and the players must
be consistent throughout
the competition.
