Beer + Cider MENU DESIGN RIGHT RANGE People visit different on-premise venues for different reasons and it’s important that your product range reflects this. In fact craft beer in cans has grown at 5 times the rate of bottles over the past 12 months and we expect this trend to continue over the coming years. When it comes to product freshness cans are also king as they prevent UV light from coming into contact with beer and impacting on the natural flavours of the product. FRESH IS BEST Beer and cider are generally products that should be stored cold and consumed as close to when they were produced as possible. When not stored correctly beer flavour will degrade rapidly and impact of the experience of the drinker. CATEGORY TRENDS An important part of designing a beer and cider menu is keeping up to date with drinker preferences, we see the following trends currently influencing the category: WELL-BEING As Australians aim to live a more balanced life they are searching out lower alcohol beer options. Craft brewers in particular are meeting this demand with the session ale style. These tend to be amazingly flavoursome beers that pack a lot of character into a beer that sits between 3.5 – 4% ABV. CRAFT BEER AND CIDER Australians continue to seek out artisan, small batch and locally made products across all food and beverage categories. Beer and cider drinkers are voting with their feet and are demanding craft beer and cider featuring an array of differing styles and flavours. APPROACHABLE FLAVOUR It seems Australian beer drinkers want to have their cake and eat it too! Consumers have transferred their love of crisp and refreshing lagers across to the craft beer world but with one key difference, an increase in flavour.
