Winnetka Music Festival wins 

inaugural Best Music Festival award 

The bands are booked. The 

lineup is locked. The sponsors 

are secured. The vendors, stages, 

food trucks, beer tents, volunteers, 

green rooms, VIP lounge 

and marketing are set. 

The Winnetka Music Festival 

team is ready to go and they’re 

three months out. They’re a real 

music fest with real bands - built 

right into the middle of downtown 

Winnetka. How did that 

happen? The Winnetka Music 

Festival team wants to catch 

readers up on the fun (and work) 

they’ve been doing behind the 

scenes to bring an authentic fest 

vibe to the suburbs of the North 

Shore. This is not a Village of 

Winnetka block party with cover 

bands – this is an industry-recognized 

music fest that is open 

to all. Their bands are nationally 

touring acts whose music is on 

Spotify, Apple Music and radio. 

Some have played Bonnaroo, 

some late night TV, some were 

top picks at SXSW (South by 

Southwest). They curate their 

lineup with handpicked acts who 

are ready to break … so you can 

say, “I saw them when ...” 

This year, the Winnetka Music 

Festival is Friday, June 21, and 

Saturday, June 22. No Sunday. 

The fest kicks off at 5:30 p.m. 

June 21 with five acts running on 

two main stages until 11 p.m. An 

EDM (electronic dance music) 

set will close the night. The fest 

reopens on June 22 with five acts 

on the Family Stage running from 

9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. for kids and 

‘tweens. The Chapel Stage at Lincoln 

Avenue and Pine Street is a 

seated listening venue with seven 

acts from 1-8 p.m. The two Main 

Stages, at Lincoln Avenue and 

Elm Street and Winnetka Community 

House parking lot, run 

from 1-11 p.m. with 11 acts on 

alternating stages. The lineup is 

diverse and exciting with something 

for every music taste. 

New this year is Sunrise Beach 

Yoga, an Acoustic Café and Art 

Installations. They’ve moved 

the entire fest to the east side 

of Green Bay Road this year to 

make it easier and safer and the 

Family Stage moves to the Village 

Green. 

The festival is free on Friday 

and during the day Saturday, but 

a $20 ticket (wristband) is needed 

for Saturday evening. Attendees 

are encouraged to get their tickets 

now as they are selling fast 

and space is limited. The festival 

headliners Moon Taxi and Dorothy 

are a big draw and sell out 

their shows. Don’t miss out. VIP

The concept of a music fest is 

to get a small taste of a lot of music 

in one venue, hence their alternating 

stages that run all day.

One last note of thanks – The 

Winnetka Music Festival couldn’t

Schlechter follows in his 

own spa and practice. To

of skin care he traveled to 

Obagi’s facility in California 

to work with Obagi 

directly and advance his 

understanding of medical 

skin care. Schlechter 

said it was one of the best 

trainings he has attended. 

Schlechter said he cannot 

overemphasize the importance 

of initial and ongoing 

training for himself 

and his staff. 

“I invest a lot of time 

and resources into our 

aestheticians so that they 

provide superior services 

to our spa clients,” he said. 

“One of the first things I 

tell the service providers 

is you have one chance to 

impress the client, and if 

the service you provide is 

not outstanding, they will 

likely go elsewhere.” 

Schlechter is looking 

forward to expanding his 

med spa, and has recently 

purchased additional space 

to do so. Exciting new

Considered the oldest family 

name in Chicago pizza, Lou

Wednesday, March 27, at 

Pinstripes in Northbrook. 

The honorees feasted on 

a variety of hors d’oeuvres 

provided by Pinstripes — 

who won Best Buffet and 

Best Bowling Alley in the 

contest — including platters 

of housemade bruschetta, 

avocado hummus 

and garlic hummus, chilled 

shrimp cocktail, antipasto, 

Italian sliders of meatballs 

and chicken parmesan, 

burger sliders, crispy 

calamari, and cookies and 

brownies; margherita, 

chicken and avocado club, 

and roasted vegetable flatbreads; 

and passed appetizers 

of fried mozzarella,

Franz Jewelers Ltd named best 

jewelry store by North Shore residents 

The owners of Franz Jewelers 

Ltd in Northbrook are delighted 

and honored to have 

been chosen Best Jewelry Store 

by residents of the North Shore 

in 22nd Century Media’s recent 

North Shore Choice Awards. 

Franz Pintz first opened the 

doors of his business in 1966, 

as “Northbrook’s First Jeweler.” 

Franz, a watchmaker trained 

in his native Germany, came 

to the United States in 1957 

with a $100 loan in his pocket 

and a dream to someday open 

his own business. With a lot 

of hard work and a bit of luck, 

that dream came true in August 

1966. He has been in business 

ever since. His son Frank, a 

graduate gemologist, who studied 

at the Gemological Institute 

of America (GIA), joined his 

father in 1983. His daughter 

Doris is also part of the team, as 

well as Ilse, who came to work 

for Franz 29 years ago after her 

father retired and closed their 

family jewelry store. 

“We are a bit of a hidden 

gem,” said Franz, laughing. 

They are part of downtown 

Northbrook, but not in a shopping 

center where you would 

expect to find a store. Franz 

Jewelers is located at 1220 

Meadow Road, on the first floor 

of the three-story office building, 

not a typical place for a 

merchant. 

Being in business for almost 

53 years, Franz has seen 

it all. At the age of 92, he still 

can be found at the store three 

days a week. They have survived 

recessions, soaring gold 

prices, and the coming and going 

of many other jewelers in 

the area. The rise of internet 

commerce now threatens many 

small shops. Frank and Franz 

attribute their longevity to providing 

a personal, professional 

experience for every customer, 

and are proud to be serving their 

third generation of North Shore 

families. 

“Word of mouth is our best 

advertising,” Frank said. “We 

offer a friendly, knowledgeable, 

no-pressure experience. We are 

jewelers, not just salespeople, 

who know the industry and 

stand behind our products and 

services.” 

Franz doesn’t believe in phony 

sales or gimmicks. 

“We don’t mark up our prices 

so we can constantly run 50 percent 

off sales,” he said. “Honesty 

and trust is a big part of this 

industry.” 

What Franz has done since 

his first year in business is hold 

an annual Mother’s Day Sale. 

It’s a one-week only store-wide 

sale, and many customers stock 

up and buy gifts for future occasions. 

“We have wrapped many 

items in holiday paper during 

this sale,” said Franz with a 

smile. 

This year’s Mother’s Day 

Sale is May 4-11.
