Fans gather at John Varvatos Malibu to help Woolsey Fire Victims
Barbara Burke
Freelance Reporter
He is the star of the runway
and of the popular
television show “Fashion
Master” and, in many of his
loyal, admiring fans’ minds.
He is a leading, quintessential
men’s fashion designer
of our time.
John Varvatos met with
delighted customers at a
well-attended, convivial
evening sales fundraising
function at the Malibu store
in Cross Creek on Thursday,
April 4.
The philanthropic event
highlighted his Spring Collection
and 10 percent of all
proceeds were donated to
Woolsey Fire victims.
Malibu is a mecca for casual
yet cutting-edge, highquality
apparel, and for 11
years, John Varvatos’ store
has spearheaded new looks
and helped customers shine.
His are timeless, classic
investment pieces that never
go out of style, serve as a
fashion statement, last for
decades and provide a platform
for a person to present
with a hip, unique look, one
that highlights a person’s individuality.
As the popular D.J. Andres
Sette Arrura spun “Life
in the Fast Lane,” and patrons
enjoyed upscale mixed
drinks, Ed Marek took it all
in.
“I come here all the time
to buy John’s wonderful
jewelry and clothes, such as
this great bracelet and the
shirt I am wearing,” he said.
“I love his styles because,
although I’m only a real estate
guy, when I wear John’s
clothes, I get to pretend that
I am a rock and roll star.”
Customer Richard Fields
heartily agreed, displaying
a jacket he bought when
Varvatos began his business
in 2001, all the while
purchasing another classic
jacket.
“I bought the leather jacket
that I’m wearing right
when John started his line,”
Fields said. “It is still in
style because John is far and
above a fashion designer for
all time and his pieces are
cutting edge but not wacky
like some designers’ lines.”
The ladies like Varvatos’
jewelry as well.
“His pieces are versatile
as well as being cuttingedge,”
Melissa Finkelstein
said. “I could see working
them into my wardrobe.
Melissa’s husband, Marc
Finkelstein agreed, noting,
“I manufacture leather and
I am a big fan of John’s because
the materials he uses
in his apparel are of the
highest quality.”
Sales were repeatedly
ringing up, as were the donations
for the Woolsey Fire
victims, a fact that delighted
Varvatos and his many customers.
As he affably chatted with
attendees and signed leather
jackets, shirts and caps, he
inquired how they fared in
the fire.
His customers admire
him for his brilliant designs
as well as his gravitas, and
Varvatos is proud to contribute
to the Malibu community.
