Entrepreneurship<br />

Development<br />

The partnership with<br />

Yabatech is an<br />

extensi<strong>on</strong> of Can<strong>on</strong>’s<br />

Miraisha Sustainability<br />

Programme. The<br />

initiative, launched in<br />

late 2014, aims to build<br />

the capacity and talent<br />

of people in the African<br />

countries in which<br />

Can<strong>on</strong> operates by<br />

leveraging the<br />

company’s imaging<br />

heritage, advanced<br />

technological strengths<br />

and innovati<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

The programme aims<br />

to improve the<br />

knowledge of digital<br />

printing and related<br />

technical skills of 80<br />

Nigerian students<br />

sector. The first activity<br />

to be run under this<br />

partnership is speciality<br />

and facilitate their<br />

professi<strong>on</strong>al integrati<strong>on</strong><br />

in the industry by offering<br />

access to professi<strong>on</strong>al<br />

machines and a space for<br />

meetings and experience<br />

with experts. With the<br />

third-largest youth<br />

populati<strong>on</strong> in the world<br />

and a median age<br />

standing at about 18<br />

years,Nigeria’s<br />

development is<br />

dependent <strong>on</strong> its youth.<br />

Indeed, over 70 percent<br />

of the country’s<br />

have benefited from the<br />

Pan African financial<br />

instituti<strong>on</strong>, United Bank<br />

for Africa (UBA) Plc Brand<br />

Ambassadors for 2019.<br />

The 30 students made<br />

up of 17 males and 13<br />

females were selected<br />

based <strong>on</strong> a number of<br />

carefully-defined criteria<br />

including clear<br />

leadership and creative<br />

skills as well as the keen<br />

ability to promote the<br />

UBA brand as campus<br />

ambassadors.<br />

UBA’s Campus<br />

Ambassador Programme<br />

is UBA’s initiative to<br />

identify young emerging<br />

leaders from tertiary<br />

instituti<strong>on</strong>s across the<br />

country and give them a<br />

unique and highly<br />

rewarding learning<br />

experience while also<br />

grooming them to be<br />

effectual leaders in their<br />

societies and country at<br />

large. The programme is<br />

also an opportunity for<br />

the bank to give back to<br />

students who remain a<br />

explained that the UBA<br />

Campus Ambassador<br />

programme offered a<br />

unique opportunity to<br />

students of tertiary<br />

instituti<strong>on</strong>s in Nigeria to<br />

be part of a dynamic and<br />

forward-thinking Pan-<br />

African bank by<br />

representing the brand<br />

both within and outside<br />

the campus.<br />

He noted that the<br />

programme is designed<br />

to be a win-win for both<br />

the students and the bank<br />

as it presents a learning<br />

experience and a highly<br />

rewarding pursuit for<br />

selected students, while<br />

providing them with a<br />

platform to display their<br />

leadership capabilities<br />

and showcase their<br />

diverse talents which<br />

will in turn drive further<br />

growth to the bank.<br />

Speaking to the<br />

students, he said, “We are<br />

glad because since we<br />

began this programme a<br />

few years ago, the<br />

narrative has indeed<br />

changed. We are now<br />

C<strong>on</strong>tinuing, he said, “We<br />

believe that the youths are<br />

the future of every country<br />

so we selected the best from<br />

the universities to<br />

collaborate with them to<br />

build their leadership skills<br />

and creative skills so that<br />

they can be better leaders<br />

in the future, whether they<br />

choose to operate in the<br />

public sector or the private<br />

sector,” he said.<br />

Rao explained that the<br />

students were selected<br />

after an assessment to<br />

ensure that they possess<br />

the qualities that UBA<br />

prides itself in.<br />

“You need to show that<br />

you have the spirit of<br />

enterprise, excellence<br />

and that you do what you<br />

say you will do, which is<br />

executi<strong>on</strong>. These qualities<br />

are dear to us and to what<br />

we stand for here in<br />

UBA."<br />

According to her,<br />

because sports involve<br />

risks, it teach students<br />

how to take risks.<br />

“Sports participati<strong>on</strong><br />

by children at the early<br />

stage could improve<br />

their chances of making<br />

it a career.<br />

Kennedy-Echetebu who<br />

lauded Cor<strong>on</strong>a School<br />

Agbara for investing in<br />

sports, said it has added<br />

swimming pools and gulf<br />

to their array of sporting<br />

activities. While urging<br />

other schools to emulate<br />

Cor<strong>on</strong>a, she said, “Cor<strong>on</strong>a<br />

is balancing academics<br />

with sports.”<br />

She, however urged<br />

Cor<strong>on</strong>a to c<strong>on</strong>sider the<br />

diets of the students since<br />

they are engaging in<br />

sports.<br />

Oluwadamilola who<br />

declared the inter-house<br />

opened said, sports<br />

“Extra curricular<br />

activities are<br />

indispensable to children<br />

lives. They are parts of<br />

the things that make for<br />

success,” she said.<br />

Stating the speciality of<br />

the 25th inter house<br />

sports, Oluwadamilola<br />

said it was the first time<br />

the school would used the<br />

sport pavili<strong>on</strong>s. She also<br />

noted that the inter house<br />

sports was supposed to<br />

hold in February but<br />

shifted to April due to the<br />

electi<strong>on</strong>s and UTME<br />

examinati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Meanwhile, Kingfisher<br />

House emerged winner<br />

of the 25th Cor<strong>on</strong>a<br />

Sec<strong>on</strong>dary School,<br />

Agbara inter-house<br />

sports, winning 42 gold,<br />

32 silver and 40 br<strong>on</strong>ze.<br />

While Crane House took<br />

sec<strong>on</strong>d positi<strong>on</strong> with 40<br />

gold, 43 silver and 28<br />

br<strong>on</strong>ze; the third positi<strong>on</strong><br />

went to Weaver House,<br />

clinching 31 gold, 36<br />

silver and 32 br<strong>on</strong>ze. The<br />

overall best female<br />

athlete was Zara Okoli of<br />

Crane House and the<br />

overall best male athlete<br />

was Nicholas Okoye of<br />

Kingfisher House.
