As one enters the establishment, the aromatic smell of fresh Caffe Luxxe coffee permeates the space and customers instantly notice the ordering board that proudly announces the restaurant’s use of only fresh, organic, locally-sourced produce from companies that many Malibuites prefer, including Larry Thorne Farms, One Gun Ranch, Malibu Farm and Maggie’s Farm. Try the crispy Surfers Rancheros ($16.50), fresh and flakey tortillas with delicious, crunchy slaw. Perfectly spiced, the dish is neither too mild nor too spicy. “Customers really love the Rancheros,” waiter Eddie Ramirez said. “I enjoy the food here because it is always fresh and we keep changing products with the seasons.” Fresh fish is a hallmark of Malibu Farms and customers often come just to try one of the establishment’s popular seafood selections. Customers desiring a healthy selection from the sea can try the crab cakes ($21), served with caper aioli and freshly-picked arugula, accompanied by the very popular potatoes. Malibu Resident Eloise Senter enjoyed the dish. “The crab cakes weren’t too fishy and they were amazingly fresh,” she said. Swedish Mini Pancakes, served with fresh blueberries and delicious whipped cream ($13) is an aesthetic selection that both catches the eye and pleases the palette. Restaurant owner Helene Henderson spent a lot of her life living in Sweden, so this selection is one of the best. Customers who prefer thinly-sliced pancakes will thoroughly enjoy this traditional breakfast dish. The restaurant’s farmto-table and sea-to-table menu, combined with its proximity to the sea make for a wonderful day at Malibu pier and customers often linger on the second floor seating area, enjoying the panoramic Pacific. Spring has arrived, and the hills in Malibu are again touched with color. As the weather warms, we also have seen the warming of the real estate market. The first few months of 2019 have been slow moving, but there are signs that we are back on track as the housing market is starting to take off again. For the month of March, in total, from information provided by MLS CLAW, 12 homes were sold with four of those homes located on the beach. In addition 28 leases were signed, 10 of which were on the beach; and three land sales, four condo/town home sales and five motorhome sales were made. We continue to see more sales each month as Malibu rebuilds. April is already shaping up to deliver more sales as we have 20 pending sales on homes, three of which are on the beach. We also have pending sales for two manufactured mobile homes; 14 SPONSORED COLUMN condos/town homes, with three of those on the beach; 10 land sales with one on the beach; and 12 leases with two on the beach.
