Father docked for collecting
N850,000, failing to give
daughter in marriage
A47-year-old man Jibrin
Attom, yesterday,
appeared in an Ajegunle
Magistrate's Court, Apapa,
Lagos, for allegedly failing
to give out his daughter’s
hand in marriage after
collecting N850,000.
Attom, who resides in
Olodi-Apapa Area of
Ajegunle, Lagos, is facing a
charge of obtaining money
under false pretence.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Kolade
Tedunjaye, told the court that
the defendant collected
N850,000 from the
complainant, Mr
Mohammed Umar-Abdul,
with a promise that he would
give him his daughter for
marriage.
“The defendant’s daughter,
Kathoma, and the
to drive a campaign that aims
to keep malaria high on the
political agenda, mobilise
additional resources and
empower communities to take
ownership of malaria
prenvention and care.
“Even with decades of malaria
combat, there is still significant
gains in the number of cases.
There is an estimated 100
million malaria cases with over
300,000 deaths per year in
Nigeria, this is more than the
215,000 deaths from HIV/AIDS
(United States Embassy in
Nigeria). It is, therefore,
pertinent to get the global
response to malaria back on
track and ownership of this
challenge lies in our hands.
JIV, to the site of the incident on
Saturday, April 20, 2019, by a team
made up of regulatory agencies,
community stakeholders and CNL,
was caused by third-party
interference. There was no impact
to any of the neighbouring
communities."
complainant had agreed to get
married and her father had
collected the money as part of
the bride price.
“But his daughter left the
complainant and got married to
another man,” Tedunjaye said.
The prosecutor said the
complainant then demanded
refund of his money, but did not
get it.
“The complainant reported the
case to the <strong>police</strong> and the
defendant was arrested.” he
said.
According to the prosecutor,
the offence contravened Section
two sureties in like sum and
adjourned the case till May 6
