Forest Offers Information
If you would like to receive quick information about events in our
area including crime, notification about emergencies, reported crime
patterns, etc., you are invited to join our email list. To have your name
added to the list, send an email from the address that you normally
open regularly to info.westlake@gmail.com. Include your name, address
and telephone number in case of emergency. You are also invited to go
the website at www.westlakecia.org and register for email of notices
regarding meetings and special projects in both subdivisions. While at
the website, please look at some of the information we are including that
is timely in nature.
StreetLights Out?
Please report outages of streetlights to Centerpoint Energy. Get the pole
number as well as the nearest street address and call 713–207-2222 or go
to their website and complete an on-line form. It is very important that
non-working lights are reported for the safety of our each of us. Call it in,
call it in.
Deed Restriction Copy
Homeowners and renters can get a copy of the deed restrictions for both
Westlake and Westlake Forest on our website: www.westlakecia.org.
Please note that these two subdivisions have separate deed restrictions.
You may also call PCMI or send them an email to have a copy mailed to
you. Information on PCMI is on the inside of the back page of the monthly
newsletter and on our website.
Prepare For Summer Heat Now!
We’re weeks away from sweltering temperatures, hurricane warnings and bug
invasions. Before summer hits, make sure you and your home are prepared:
Give Your Air Conditioner a Checkup
• Replace your air filter to make sure the whole system runs smoothly.
• Clear debris on or around your vents or exhausts and clean off any dirt
from the main unit outside.
• Install programmable thermostats.
Test for Ventilation Leaks
• First, look for actual leaks: drafts in your windows and doors.
• Check your attic insulation for leaks and gaps.
Set Up a Barrier for Bugs
• Check caulking around windows and doors, fix any drafts/gaps with
new weather stripping and caulking.
• Spray outdoor perimeter with a pesticide, along with baseboards, sinks,
windows and doors.
Change Your Ceiling Fan Direction
• Run Ceiling Fans Counter-Clockwise for Summer Savings.
Prevent Water Damage
• Make sure your windows and doors are properly sealed and caulked, too.
• Test gutters to look for water coming out of any places it shouldn’t.
• Inspect your roof (remove any debris and leaves while you’re up there).

special in honor of the Memorial Day holiday:
Teenage Job Seekers
If you are between 12 and 18 and would like to be added to the
teenage job seeker’s list, please fill out the form on our website (www.
krenekprinting.com, click submissions and choose Jobseekers) with
your name, birthdate (mo. & yr.), phone number, year you will graduate
and the name of your newsletter/subdivision. Check the list of jobs you
want on your form. Please make sure your email is correct, we send
emails in the summer to make sure all the info is still good and that you
want to stay on the list. If we do not hear back from you after 3 tries, we
will remove you from the list until we do. Must have parent(s) permission.

Palm Springs, Calif.: For Guaranteed Summer Weather
While most beach seasons are just beginning, Memorial Day marks the
end of bearable temps in the desert, so hotels and operators are running
specials for the holiday. Though other parts of California will be in the
midst of “May Gray” and “June Gloom,” Palm Springs still has nonstop
sunshine-plus dozens of vintage shops, acclaimed restaurants and an
enduring love for all things mid-century (its hotels and private homes offer
some of the best examples of 1950s modern architecture in the country).
Washington, D.c.: For Patriotism, Pomp And Circumstance
Washington D.C. is the most patriotic place to celebrate the holiday, with a
parade and plenty of pomp and circumstance taking place during special military
ceremonies. Arlington National Cemetery-which celebrated its 150 th anniversary
in May 2014-hosts a wreath-laying ceremony at 11 AM on Memorial Day at the
Tomb of the Unknowns accompanied by performances from the U.S. Navy Band.
Saint Louis: For The Ultimate Treasure Hunt
Don’t miss the largest flea market in the Midwest, Gypsy Caravan, an
annual Memorial Day event organized for the 44 th year by the St. Louis
Symphony Volunteer Association.
The Jersey Shore: For Family Fun And Rides Along The Iconic Boardwalk
Steel Pier, Atlantic City’s popular ocean side amusement park, debuted eight
new rides in 2013. Outside Atlantic City, check out the annual Wildwoods
International Kite Festival, the largest in North America, Friday thru Monday, an
event that starts Friday at noon with the “Unlocking of the Ocean” media event.
Austin: For Boating Season And Outdoor Fun
Head to Lake Travis to soak up some of Austin’s best weather of the year,
with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the eighties. Memorial Day
kicks off boating season here, so the place to be is the lake.
