an optics technology that
gleans significantly more
information from each
test than before, in less
time and with less patient
sample.
It simultaneously
performs two tests that are
commonly ordered together
from a single small blood
sample. This improves lab
productivity and turnaround
time while simplifying inventory
management and optimizing
storage space.
The individual, dual-test
slides include paired assays
for blood urea nitrogen and
creatinine ratios; triglycerides
and cholesterol; and glucose
and calcium levels, all for
use on the Vitros XT 7600
Integrated System.
Vitros XT MicroSlide is
currently under review by the
FDA.
Malvern Panalytical has
introduced the next
generation of Epsilon 1
X-ray fluorescence (XRF)
spectrometers.
The upgraded Epsilon 1
integrates a high-power X-ray
tube and a new detector, which
together deliver a threefold
improvement in sensitivity,
along with rapid measurement
capabilities.
Ultrasound blood flow monitor
gets FDA 510(k) clearance
Sonavex received 510(k)
clearance from the US
FDA for its EchoSure device
to deliver definitive blood
flow data on demand.
The EchoSure system
combines 3D ultrasound
imaging with advanced
deep learning algorithms
to automate visual and
quantitative blood flow
monitoring after surgery.
Coupled with EchoMark
bioresorbable markers,
EchoSure eliminates
the need for ultrasound
expertise in order to
measure blood flow. The
EchoSure App enables
surgeons to monitor
quantified more quickly and
accurately than ever before in
an instrument of this size, the
patients remotely from
their mobile devices.
“Putting ultrasound
technology in the hands
of bedside nurses for
the first time may enable
detection of a vascular
compromise earlier than
clinical observation alone,
providing opportunities for
more rapid intervention
and improved patient
outcomes,” said Devin
O’Brien Coon, MD, Chief
Medical Officer and
President of Sonavex.
EchoMark and EchoSure
are both available from
Sonavex for clinical use
across the United States.
company said in a statement.
Epsilon 1 is available in
a number of pre-calibrated
versions which are dedicated
to specific applications.
The Epsilon 1 Lube Oil
delivers ASTM 6481-compliant
elemental analysis of
unused lubricating oils; the
Epsilon 1 Sulfur in Fuels
quickly quantifies sulfur
content in fuels according
to ASTM D4294-10 and
ISO 20847; the Epsilon
1 Academia enables
rapid characterization of
unidentified samples, using
Omnian software for analysis;
and the integrated camera
in the Epsilon 1 for Small
Spot Analysis simplifies
the investigation of very
small objects, inclusions or
inhomogeneities.
US FDA expand
mitral valve
repair device
indication
T
he US FDA has expanded
indication to MitraClip
device to repair a leaky mitral
valve without open-heart
surgery, Abbott announced.
MitraClip is the first
transcatheter mitral valve
intervention therapy approved
to treat select heart failure
patients with clinically
significant secondary, or
functional, mitral regurgitation
(MR).
The MitraClip device repairs
MR without open-heart surgery
and is delivered to the heart
through a small incision in the
leg. The device clips portions
of the leaflets, or flaps, of
the mitral valve together to
reduce the backflow of blood,
restoring the heart’s ability to
pump oxygenated blood more
efficiently.
