Minnesota State Pork Masters Golf
Outing. Martin County holds the esteemed
title as Minnesota’s leading
pork-producing county. This event
serves as a reminder of the importance
of the pork industry to our
county and to the state of Minnesota.
The outing also helps to raise
funds for local Ag Scholarships and
to increase ag-awareness among
our regional businesses. Area pork

Program produces new leaders
Last month
marked the end
of the 2018-2019
Leadership Martin County program. The nine month
program saw 20 local participants graduate, armed
with a greater knowledge and understanding of the assets,
the complexities and the potential of our community.
The Leadership Martin County program began in
the Fairmont area in 2010 with the mission “To develop
community leaders to ensure the future vitality of our
area.” Over 110 participants have now graduated the
program with candidates drawn from business, industry,
education, public and private agencies, civic groups,
non-profit organizations and virtually every other corner
of the professional community.
The Leadership Martin County program was
designed to enable candidates to learn about Martin

Memorial Day is now behind
us and we are into June. The summer
season is upon us. We are hoping
that the rains will pause and give
our farmers a well deserved
break and we can get down
to the business of enjoying
our towns and everything they
have to offer. There are so many
things our communities give us.
We love our lakes and
the beauty and fun they provide.
Summer baseball, softball,
golf and other sports will soon
be a daily occurrence. Martin
County has a number of terrific
parks for everyone to enjoy and
our towns have additional city
parks that are great meeting
places and great places to relax
and have fun. We have disc golf
courses that bring people from
throughout the country and a
water park and pools that everyone
can enjoy. Our schools
offer summertime programs
and activities for kids and adults
alike. Interlaken Heritage Days,
community celebrations, parades,
4th of July and the Martin County Fair are all
big events we look forward to!
While we are out and about over the coming
summer months I hope we all take the time to frequent
and enjoy our local businesses. We are blessed
to have many great dining options. You can grab
ice cream, hang out next to the lake, grab a pizza or
choose from many fine dining establishments. There

is a fun event with limited ticket sales and is always a

Length of Service: United Hospital
District recently honored
employees celebrating milestone
work anniversaries at a special
luncheon held May 15. Twenty-four employees were recognized for a combined
350 years of service. The UHD 2019 Service Recognition Ceremony celebrated
five, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 40-year milestones, with honorees representing virtually
every department of UHD, its clinics, Home Health and Hospice program and
Adolescent Treatment Center. At the event, managers and senior administrators
awarded gifts based on length of service, with jewel-themed pins or gifts representing
the different milestones. The ceremony aligned with UHD’s recognition
of National Hospital Week, which was May 12-18.

new summer program called “Slim Your Screen Time,” designed to help families
improve their health by decreasing their screen time. The eight-week
program runs from June 1 to July 31 and encourages participants to complete
30 or more activities from a list of over 100 ideas over the course of two
months. To join the Slim Your Screen Time Challenge, simply print out a game
board and record completed activities for a fun way to track progress. The

The “City of Fairmont” replica boat float
will again make its annual appearance as the
Fairmont Area Chamber's entry in the Interlaken
Heritage Days parade this Saturday, June 8. Join
area visitors and residents as they gather along
Downtown Plaza in Fairmont to celebrate and enjoy
our great community. We will be distributing
our '2019-20 Visitor & Relocation Guide to Martin
County' as well as our '2019 City Map' in an effort
to inform our visitors and remind our residents of
the best that Martin County has to offer.
Our Visitor & Relocation Guide is a comprehensive
publication showcasing the many attractions,
activities, sights and events to be found
in and around the Fairmont area. The guide includes
valuable resources for anyone interested
in visiting, relocating or building a business in
our area. This is just one part of the efforts your
Chamber is undertaking to promote our region as
a great place to live, to play and to do business.
We encourage area residents to assist us
in delivering this message through the course of
their daily lives by welcoming visitors and newcomers
to our area. A small gesture of kindness or
a word of welcome can be as memorable to those
coming from outside our community as our beautiful
lakes, our parks, our diverse dining options
and our recreational opportunities. We all have a

$1000 business scholarship
The Ambassador Committee of the Fairmont
Area Chamber of Commerce is offering a
$1,000 scholarship to a Martin County student in
a business related field entering their Junior or
Senior post secondary year in a four-year college
or their final year in a technical college.
The scholarship is awarded after a review
of grades to confirm achievement of a 3.0 GPA
on a 4.0 scale. Scholarship applications may be
picked up at the Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce
office located at 323 East Blue Earth Avenue
or filled out online on the Chamber's website
at www.fairmontchamber.org. Applications
must be submitted and received by the Chamber
office no later than July 19, 2019.

June abounds with summer adventures in Fairmont for all ages.
Free Reading Fun for youth entering Kindergarten through Grade 4 is available
at the CER Summer Reads VISTA Fairmont.
Fairmont Area Schools is pleased offer a 60-hour Summer Welding
Academy for students in grades 9-12 (1 credit) and Adults to learn essential
welding skills (June 10-27, MTWTh, 7:30 am-12:30 pm.) Adult cost is
$250. Maximum of 20 participants. Adults register through CER. High School
students should contact Bob Bonin (bbonin@fairmont.k12.mn.us) to register.

Chamber programs to resume in the Fall
Three monthly programs of the Fairmont
Area Chamber will pause once again this
year during the summer months before resuming
in the fall.
Many of you know Bureau 14 as the
premiere professional networking event in our
area, open to all Chamber Members and their
guests. These meetings offer discussion on current
business trends, governmental affairs and
local community happenings.
The Agri-Business Committee is another
great networking group geared toward farmers
and businessmen. This committee helps to promote
the importance of agriculture in Fairmont
and Martin County. The committee awards ag
scholarships to Martin County high school seniors,
