Houston Roller Derby - August 3, 2019, 7 PM, Revention Music Center,
520 Texas Avenue, Houston, TX 77002. Tickets purchased directly from
https://houstonrollerderby.com will be available for pick up at the HRD
Will Call table beginning at 4 PM on the day of the event in the Box Office
lobby. Doors open at 6 PM. Each bout has two 30 minute periods with
breaks in between. All home bouts are double headers. Get there early to
ensure the best seating! Houston Roller Derby is a family-friendly event.
Kids ages 5 and under attend for free!
All About That Bubbly - August 15, 2019, 6-10 PM, Houston Zoo, 6200

I’ll Be Single Before I Settle - August 17, 2019, 6:30-8:30 PM, Match-

77373. Admission: $25. I’ll Be Single Before I Settle is a stageplay about
four college friends who rekindle an old college bet to see who can find
true love first. Unexpectedly, a traumatic event occurs forcing the friends
to walk in their truth. This play brings awareness to domestic violence.
33 rd Annual AIA Sandcastle Competition - August 24, 2019, 10
AM-5 PM, East Beach, 1923 Boddeker Drive, Galveston, TX 77550. Free
admission, $15 Parking. The AIA SandCastle Competition is a fundraising
event for AIA Houston and ArCH Foundation as well as one of the
top five revenue generating events for the City of Galveston. This year
over 60 teams have their eyes and shovels set on winning the prestigious
Golden Bucket Award. Firms begin months in advance generating ideas,
developing designs and assigning duties. On the day of the event the
teams, stretched along the beachfront, meticulously sculpt their piles
of sand and work non-stop for five hours. The judging of the sculptures
is rated on originality of concept, artistic execution, technical difficulty,
carving technique and utilization of the site.

Shooting the Moon: Photographs from the Museum’s Collection 50
Years after Apollo 11 - Daily through September 2, 2019, Museum Of
Fine Arts, 1001 Bissonnet Street, Houston, TX 77005. In celebration of
the 50 th anniversary of the Apollo II moon landing on July 20, 1969, the
MFAH presents Shooting the Moon, an installation of approximately 40
moon-related photographs drawn from the Museum’s collection. Works
on view range from NASA images of the mission itself to fine art classics.
This 45-minute tour explores the exhibition and encourages visitors to
discuss the art together.

Living History Saturday - 3 rd Saturday of the month, 10 AM-4 PM.
Washington On The Brazos State Historic Site, 23400 Park Road 12,
Washington, TX 77880. Admission: Regular admission fees apply. Travel
back in time to where a nation was born in 1836. Staff and volunteers
dressed in period clothing bring to life the people and events of Old
Washington providing a unique opportunity to discover various aspects of
life surrounding the birth of the Republic of Texas. Activities will vary and

Comedy Night at HPL - Monthly on the 3 rd Thursday, 6-8 PM. Houston
Public Library, 500 Mckinney Avenue, Houston, TX 77002. Admission
is free. The Houston Public Library offers “Open Mic” comedy night
where local and non local comedians, comediennes, ventriloquists and
impressionists of ALL ages present family comedy to the audience. Improv
Performers from Station Theater closes out the night with games that
involve the audience. Everyone who participates in at least one open mic
throughout the year become eligible to participate in the Annual Comedy
competition which is held in December. Prizes in the amounts of $100
and $75 gift cards are given to the 4 winners. Two adult and two youth.
