Transforming travel: from adventure to advantage T he travel industry is evolving. Greater equity and sustainability from tourism is becoming a key element in every booking. Ensuring that the local community benefits from the tourist economy is as vital to many of our travellers as their passports, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent. At Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy (AKP), we are dedicated to positively impacting lives and livelihoods in the communities where our guests travel. We are equally committed to ensuring guests learn about our philanthropic investments as an integral part of their travel experience. From Africa to Asia, Latin America to the Arctic Circle, we are working with partner communities on 42 education, healthcare, conservation, and enterprise development projects, across 22 countries, and with nine full-time A&K Philanthropy co-ordinators. OUR FOUR MAIN MISSION OBJECTIVES ARE: EDUCATION Providing a supportive learning environment, we are committed to enabling children and young adults to fulfil their potential through many diverse opportunities. CONSERVATION Partnering with communities living on the edge of wilderness, we support strategies to maintain a balance between endangered species, fragile ecosystems, and economic opportunity. HEALTH We actively support the water, sanitation, and other health-related needs of residents within our partner communities, ensuring a healthier life for all. ENTERPRISE Training our partner communities in self-support and income-generating activities, we help drive growth of economic opportunity, and deliver other innovations to positively impact local livelihoods. 12 We’re passionate: we’ve been crafting perfect holidays since 1962

Some of our current projects include: BWINDI COMMUNITY HOSPITAL & NURSING SCHOOL UGANDA Bwindi Community Hospital provides healthcare to the Batwa people, who are among the poorest in the world, and readies the next generation of health workers at the new nursing school. CAMBODIA CLEAN WATER PROJECT CAMBODIA In rural Cambodia, where 13 per cent of all deaths are related to waterborne illnesses, AKP is constructing wells and bringing clean, bacteria-free water to families and communities. CHILDREN OF THE RAINBOW SCHOOL PERU Children of the Rainbow School supplies meals, medical care, education, and hope for deprived children in the area surrounding the Sacred Valley of the Incas. NAKATINDI COMMUNITY & SCHOOL ZAMBIA Nakatindi Village, a community of 2,800 people living on the edge of wilderness, has benefited from AKP projects including a school lunch programme, a health clinic, and a bike shop enterprise.
