learners to put problems into a
context they can understand, building
confidence for harder tasks.
1. MONEY PROBLEMS
Solve wide ranging money problems with this
brand new matching game! Match six money
problems that all require the same amount of
money to: pay for an item, be received in change,
equal the total amount shown, be earned or spent
on items. There are different amounts of money
ranging from 25p to €26. The reverse of the
puzzles are colour-coded to enable self-correction
and independent play. All money problems
are based around number bond knowledge,
calculation using place value of whole numbers
within 100, and applying quick and effective
calculation strategies to complete the four
operations.
• Set includes over 50 money word problems,
amounts, a variety of game and activity rules
and instructions are included on the back of
the box.

2. DECODABLE WORD PROBLEMS
Decode these simple problems, work out the
answer and find the matching self-correcting
puzzle piece. Boys especially love the fact they
are reading to solve maths problems and put
extra effort in to read the words in these simple
problems successfully. ‘Tricky’ maths vocabulary
that might not have been encountered is listed on
the back of the box. Words used are taken from
those learnt by, or at, Phase 5 of Letters
and Sounds.
Both sets cover number problems that require use
of the four operations. The red phase set focuses
on answers within 20, while the green phase
progresses to problems that have answers within
100. There are 20 puzzles in each set and exciting
activity instructions included on the box.
