ALMERE CITY COUNCIL CHAMBER
Im Jahr 1986 war Almere eine Stadt mit 40.000 Einwohnern.
Zu jener Zeit entwickelte der Architekt Cees Dam ein
Ensemble mit zwei Flügeln für die Verwaltung mit je fünf
Etagen und einem zylindrischen Rathaussaal, der über dem
öffentlichen Eingangsfoyer im Erdgeschoss schwebt. Heute,
40 Jahre später, hat die Stadt die 200.000-Einwohner-Marke
überschritten. Die Zahl der Ratsmitglieder ist gerade um weitere
sechs Abgeordnete gewachsen, weshalb der Rathaussaal
(Raadzaal) umgebaut und erneuert werden muss. Ein
Hauptziel der Renovierung war, die Öffentlichkeit näher an
den politischen Prozess heranzuführen. Fokkema & Partners
haben ein ehrgeiziges Programm im Hinblick auf Dichte,
Zugänglichkeit, Sicherheit und Installationen in ein weiträumiges,
klares Design übersetzt.
Der Grundriss wurde komplett überarbeitet. Die prestigereiche
Ratskammer kann nun flexibel als eleganter Raum
für viele verschiedene Anlässe genutzt werden, selbst für
Besprechungen im kleinen Kreis. Die Decke wurde neu gestaltet
und mit einem neuen Beleuchtungsplan sowie exzellenter
Akustik ausgestattet. Durch die Fensterfront dringt
nun wieder Tageslicht. Die durchscheinende Natursteinwand
ist ein weiteres ursprüngliches Element, welches dank des
neuen Innendesigns stark betont wird. Die neu gestalteten
Ringe aus Holz schaffen einen sanften Hintergrund, der die
Ratsmitglieder bei Versammlungen auf natürliche Weise einrahmt.
Eine einzigartige Darstellung der Stadt Almere wurde
für den Teppich im Zentrum angefertigt, in Zusammenarbeit
mit den Designern Scheublin & Lindeman.
Die renovierte Ratskammer feiert die Qualitäten der ursprünglichen
Architektur und erschafft zugleich die warme
und fließende Signatur der öffentlichen Bereiche im Erdgeschoss,
die in früheren Jahren von Fokkema & Partners
renoviert wurde.
In 1986, Almere was a town with 40,000 residents.
At that time, the building architect Cees Dam conceived
an ensemble with two wings for the administration,
each 5 stories high, with a cylindrical Council Chamber
hovering over the entrance foyer for the public domain
on the ground floor. Today, 40 years later, the City has
grown past the 200,000 residents marker. The number
of council members just grew with another six repre sentatives
and, in order to facilitate this, the City Council
Chamber (Raadzaal) had to be refurbished. Improving
the proximity of the public to the political process was
a major objective of the renovation. Fokkema & Partners
translated an ambitious program with regard to density,
accessibility, safety and installations to a spacious
and self-evident design.
The floorplan was completely redesigned. Moreover, the
prestigious council chamber is now flexible to use as
an elegant space for many other occasions, even intimate
meetings. The ceiling was reconfigured and outfitted with
a new lighting plan, and the excellent acoustics and entry
of daylight through its crown of windows was restored.
The translucent natural stone wall is another original
feature which really stands out thanks to the new interior.
The newly configured rings are materialised in wood. This
provides a gentle backdrop to naturally frame the council
members during meetings. A unique representation of the
city of Almere was made for the carpet at the centre stage
in collaboration with the designers Scheublin & Lindeman.
The renovated council chamber celebrates the qualities
of the original architecture, while at the same time
carrying the warm and fluent signature of the public
areas on the ground floor which have been renovated
by Fokkema & Partners in years before.
