Von der Inneneinrichtung großer Büros bis hin zur Renovierung<br />
von Privathäusern – die Vielfalt der Projekte, an<br />
denen der Architekt Twan Steeghs in den letzten 15 Jahren<br />
bei <strong>Fok</strong>kema & Partners gearbeitet hat, ist groß und macht<br />
ihn glücklich. „In den ersten Jahren lag der <strong>Fok</strong>us auf Inneneinrichtungen.<br />
Projekte wie diese haben eine schnelle<br />
Bearbeitungszeit; man sieht in kürzester Zeit Er gebnisse,<br />
spricht viel mit den Menschen, für die man ent wirft und<br />
mit denen die es umsetzen – dem Maler, dem Möbel hersteller,<br />
dem Tischler. Auf diese Art und Weise habe ich als<br />
angehender Architekt in kurzer Zeit viel gelernt.“<br />
Im Laufe der Jahre verlagerte sich sein Schwerpunkt auf<br />
komplette Renovierungen, wobei er nach Synergien zwischen<br />
Alt und Neu strebte. Das Rathaus in Almere ist ein<br />
gutes Beispiel dafür. „Ein relativ junges Gebäude aus den<br />
80er Jahren, das völlig veraltet aussah und durch alle<br />
möglichen Umbauten allmählich unordentlich geworden<br />
war. Es besaß aber durchaus Qualitäten, wie wir bei<br />

‘In the first few years, the focus was on interiors.<br />
Those projects have a fast throughput time; you can<br />
literally see the results, speak with the people you<br />
design for and the ones you build with – the painter,<br />
the furniture maker, the carpenter. That way, I learned<br />
a lot in a short period as a beginning architect.’<br />
Over the years, his focus shifted to complete renovations.<br />
He strives for a synergy between old and new.<br />
The Almere City Hall is a good example. ‘A relatively<br />
young building, from the eighties, that looked<br />
outdated and had been clogged up with all kinds<br />
of reconstruction and renovation. It definitely had<br />
its qualities, though, as we discovered during our<br />
