COLLIERY ACTION
Eleven volunteers from Peter
Duffy Limited spent a
morning in July helping
Lofthouse Colliery Action
Group (LCAG) to repair
damaged pathways around
the Lofthouse Country park,
taking action to fill in
potholes and improve
walkways.
It was a great opportunity for our
staff to help LCAG volunteers
with their ongoing work to
enhance the park for wildlife and
the local community.
Thank you to all those involved.
In appreciation of all the hard work
provided to the Lofthouse Colliery
Action group we were pleased to
receive certificate of appreciation
signed by the three ward councillors
for Outwood.

IPEK Rovion SAT II lateral
launch demonstration event
In August DrainsAid hosted a very successful
demonstration event of the latest innovation of
CCTV inspection equipment.
The IPEK ROVION SAT lateral launch Inspection System
is new to the UK and we were pleased to demonstrate
this latest advanced technology which will be available
to the industry from September 2019.
This innovative new unit is used for the inspection of
lateral connections via a mainline camera, which
launches a secondary camera into the lateral from the
main sewer, as and when a lateral is identified.
This unit has many benefits including:
• 300m main sewer camera cable
• 45m lateral launch capability
• Capable of inspection in DN2000
main sewer
• Capable of inspection in DN50 – DN150
lateral connections
• Fully steerable crawler unit
• New and improved feeder for push
rod launch

UKSTT ANNUAL AWARDS 2019
A DrainsAid project and a staff
member have been shortlisted
for two separate awards at this
year’s UKSTT awards ceremony
The rehabilitation of Scarborough outfall
utilising the innovative Hermes M-Coating
Trolley System has been shortlisted for the
Environmental Award. The award recognises
projects that were undertaken in a sustainable
manner to minimise impact on the surrounding
environment, and also considers community
impact, innovation and project management.
In the category Young Professional Award,
engineer Greg Thomson has been shortlisted.
Greg has been with the company for two years
and has played an essential role in the
planning and execution of numerous
large-scale pipeline renovation projects.
The award ceremony will be on 17th
September at De Vere Tortworth Court, Bristol.

SELBY THREE SWANS SPORTIVE CHARITY BIKE RIDE
The Three Swans Charity Bike Ride once
again had members of staff competing in all
three routes of One Swan 30 miles, Two
Swans 63 mile and Three Swans 100 miles.
Despite the strong winds on the day all
competitors completed their chosen route.

PROJECT UPDATE - OUGHTIBRIDGE
It has been a busy period at
our Oughtibridge Valley site
Sheffield. A key significant
milestone was reached in
August with the delivery
and installation of the 32m
long steel bridge beams.
The beams weighing 63ton,
where lifted into place using
a 1000t crane, with all the
lifts completed within a day.
With works planned to be
completed mid November
progress will continue on
the construction of the
remaining elements of the
bridge and the main site
access road.

PETER’S
UPDATE
September 2019
ZERO EMISSIONS…
It was pleasing this week to see so many
nominations for our people PRIDE awards
which made the judging of the categories very difficult
with many very worthy candidates. These are a
measure of the commitment people are making and I
thank everyone for their contributions. The awards
will be presented at the event on 10 October.
I’m pleased to confirm that we continue to invest in
our people and the skills of managers and supervisors.
The latest program commences in September designed
to improve the management and application of our
procedures, the development of skills and give more
confidence with people management, helping to
create a positive environment and a great place to
work for our industry.
I didn’t think that I’d be referring to this again but after
3 years it hasn’t gone away. Yes the Brexit saga goes on
and while it does, it makes it difficult to predict what
the short to medium term prospects are for enquiries
and opportunities. The recent slowdown in general
enquiries would suggest that developers are being
cautious with their plans.
On a positive note, one area that is unaffected by the
general economic climate is the regulated utility
sector. Each utility has its own delivery programme of
work and we have been fortunate to secure a
framework with Yorkshire Water in their AMP7
programme to commence in April next year for five
years. This is still some time away and in the meantime
we will continue to pursue whatever
opportunities that do come our way.

The latest initiative taken by Peter Duffy Limited in our
commitment to the environment and our reduction in
carbon use is the trial of electric powered mini excavators
which we are looking to add to our fleet.
Manufacturers have been developing these models over the past few
years and recently they have become available to the industry. The
new 19C-1E from JCB is the first of their electric generation and the
industry’s first fully electric mini excavator. It allows a full day’s work
on a single charge and produces zero emissions at point of use. In
addition to zero emissions this model also reduces noise pollution
therefore improving the working environment for our operatives and
the general public.
This innovative machine has a retractable undercarriage in order to
work in tight spaces such as urban areas therefore making it ideally
suitable for our operations.
This example of an innovative solution will benefit our operatives, our
clients and the general public.
