Heavenly Help At Home
By Diane Feen
When the Beatles sang, “all you need is love” it resonated with Reggie and
Pamela Smith. The healthcare professionals knew that home healthcare
should be a loving and professional experience for those who need it.
But according to nurse - and co-founder of Heavensent Home
Healthcare - Pamela, this element was lacking in the home
healthcare industry.
“I am a nurse and had worked as a home healthcare nurse for a
Medicare agency. My heart hurt when I saw unprofessional caregivers
who were rude to clients, on their cell phones or just not paying
attention to their client.”
The experience catapulted Pamela into action. She and husband
Reggie started their own home healthcare agency that emphasizes
compassionate care, strict adherence to all phases of professionalism
in the healthcare industry and client-centric care.
They specialize in referring caregivers that provide home care to
the elderly, frail, and disabled in the comfort of their own homes or
a facility. The Smith’s also make it their goal to screen every caregiver
they hire with the utmost of attention to detail.
“Every week about 10 caregivers apply for a job with us and we
only hire about four or five. We screen them very carefully and let
caregivers know what we expect from them. If they are not appropriate
for our family members, then we wouldn’t want to send them
out to someone else’s family,” said Reggie.
Reggie’s words are his bible, so to speak. Heavensent Home
Healthcare clients are outspoken in their love and respect for
Heavensent. “Carline gets me out of bed every morning, bathes me,
dresses me and makes breakfast. She is wonderful and makes a
big difference in my life. I consider her like a daughter because she
takes such good care of me,” said Nicki, who has been a Heavensent
client for 11 years.
Not only are their caregivers trained to respond to emergencies,
but each client gets to pick the caregiver of their choice. The
Smith’s know that the clients’ comfort level is of primary importance.
“We give potential clients the opportunity to interview
several caregivers and choose the one they feel good about. The
