Siperstein Dermatology GROUP
A Culture Of Positivity
by Nicol Jenkins
Wowing patients with great care and customer
service is key to Siperstein Dermatology Group’s
growth and ability to recruit highly qualified doctors.
In only 8 years, Siperstein Dermatology Group has grown from
a small private practice to 11 board certified doctors, a staff of
over 60, and two state-of-the-art medical facilities in Boca Raton
and Boynton Beach. Robyn Siperstein, M.D., the Yale-trained
founder credits her practice’s success to a culture of positivity
and caring.
“While many people hate to use the term ‘customer service’ in
relation to medicine, it is important. After working at a few other
private practices, I had so many ideas about how I could improve
service and enjoy working with my colleagues,” she says.
Her goal was to create a practice that offered both a high level
of patient care and customer service and plenty of what she calls
“positivity.” She came up with six core values—safety, caring, respect,
integrity, passion and teamwork (SCRIPT)—that would define
the practice, how they treat patients, and how they treat each
other. “Patients can sense that we all really enjoy working with each
other, which improved teamwork and the level of care that we provide.
We tell patients that our goal is to go above and beyond for
them, and we share how we do that: We use checklists, we have
protocols in place, we don’t double book, and we take the time to
make sure all of their needs are addressed.
“We hold monthly staff meetings, and one of our managers puts
out a weekly newsletter on positivity,” says Dr. Siperstein. “She
comments about the wonderful efforts she has seen and shares the
positive reviews we’ve received from patients that week. It helps
get everyone excited and happy to come to work.”
The practice also gives out “Smile Awards,” which recognize team
members who go above and beyond in exemplifying the practice’s
six core values. “Employees nominate each other,” says Dr. Siperstein.
Recipients get a Smile pin, and they wear them at the office.
Siperstein Dermatology group also believes that taking great care
of patients means supporting their communities. Ten percent of all
retail proceeds go to charity, and the practice combines its teambuilding
activities with its charitable efforts. “Typically, we raise at
least $1,000/month. We donate $500 to the charity and use $500
for the team-building activity related to that charity, such as the
Build a Bear. Our last charity was Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital.
First we went to ‘Build a Bear’ and built bears together, and
then took them to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and hand
them out,” she says.
The philosophy has worked well. Over the past eight years, Siperstein
Dermatology Group has been through multiple expansions.
Three years ago, Dr. Siperstein built a new 8,000-square-foot facility
in Boynton Beach and she is in the process of completing a new
