DOUGLAS BRUCE – a citizen of the United Kingdom and Germany – was born<br />
in Perth, and educ<strong>at</strong>ed in Edinburgh; while preparing for a career in<br />
accountancy, he studied with Noel Rawsthorne (Liverpool C<strong>at</strong>hedral) and<br />
obtained the ARCO, ARCM (honours) and LRAM diplomas.<br />
He subsequently became Deputy Head of Finance <strong>at</strong> the Bank for<br />
Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Settlements, Basel, and lived in Switzerland before moving in<br />
2011 to Germany. He continued his organ studies under Felix Pachl<strong>at</strong>ko (Basel<br />
C<strong>at</strong>hedral), particip<strong>at</strong>ing in master classes under Kevin Bowyer, Dame Gillian<br />
Weir, and Ludger Lohmann.<br />
Leaving the world of finance in 2001, <strong>Douglas</strong> became a much-travelled<br />
recitalist, and has given some 100 recitals in 25 US st<strong>at</strong>es, appearing inter alia<br />
<strong>at</strong> St. Thomas´ Church, New York, Trinity Church, Boston, Holy Name<br />
C<strong>at</strong>hedral, Chicago, as well as USMA Cadet Chapel, West Point (home to the<br />
world´s largest church organ). He appeared several times <strong>at</strong> Harvard and<br />
Princeton Universities, the c<strong>at</strong>hedrals of Los Angeles and San Francisco, and<br />
Washington N<strong>at</strong>ional C<strong>at</strong>hedral. In Canada and Europe he has visited 25<br />
further c<strong>at</strong>hedrals – most recently Lausanne and Moscow – particip<strong>at</strong>ing in<br />
organ festivals in the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Poland, Scotland and<br />
Ukraine (Lviv, 2014, 2018) as well as civic venues including Glasgow’s<br />
Kelvingrove Museum, Dundee’s Caird Hall, and Ayr Town Hall.<br />
<strong>Douglas</strong> is principal organist <strong>at</strong> Wollbach Parish Church, in the Black Forest. He<br />
frequently accompanies other instrumentalists and singers.<br />
