OUR YEAR 



The O’Donovan Way 

Our history 

Denis Joseph O’Donovan, fondly known as 

Generous Joe, arrived in London in the 1950s 

after moving from a rural village in West Cork. In 

a dance hall in London Joe met his wife Kathleen, 

who also came from West Cork, they married in 

1958, settling in Kilburn. They had four children: 

Michael, Caroline, Anthony and Jacqueline. 

Joe’s ambition and determination to succeed in 

business was 

paramount – like a 

lot of young men 

who had made 

the journey over 

the pond. Having 

previously worked 

on the railways 

and construction 

sites, Joe used 

this experience 

and in 1959 

he bought a 

Caterpillar 951 

tracked shovel 

and secured his 

first demolition job. He went on to purchase a 

tipper and eventually moved into skip lorries, 

establishing a depot in Kings Cross (which is now 

the site of the British Library) where 

his new business thrived and began 

to expand. 

Sadly however Joe 

passed away suddenly 

in 1985 at the age 

of 51, leaving an 

extremely successful 

business which needed 

continuing. His four 

children were thrust 

into the running of the family business and at this 

stage none of them had many years’ experience 

under their belts. This didn’t stop the family 

however and they took over the running of the 

business. 

Nothing has changed in the intervening years, 

O’Donovan is still entirely family-owned and is run 

by the four siblings with Michael the CEO, Caroline 

and Anthony the Operations Directors 

and Jacqueline, Managing Director. All of them 

are fiercely proud of the family-values and Irish 

heritage which have helped make O’Donovan a 

continued success. 

After working out of numerous locations in North 

London, the business finally settled in Tottenham 

and currently has four sites within the area, along 

with an additional site in West London.

Our comprehensive range of award-winning services are available round

Tippers 

Our FORS Gold and CLOCS compliant fleet of 

32 tonne tippers are available for muck away, 

excavation, day work and delivery of 

materials. 

Roll on Roll off bins 

Job too big for a skip? Our Roll on/off bins are 

robust and versatile and suitable for larger 

projects. 

Containers are available in 20 and 40 cubic 

yards. 

They can take rubble, industrial or commercial 

waste, bulky recyclables and more.

Demolition 

From industrial dismantling, asbestos 

removal, strip-outs, full site clearance, 

scaffolding and rubbish removal, we provide a 

comprehensive demolition service. 

We offer site visits, welfare and risk 

assessments and method statements. Our 

full Compliance Department ensures all CDM 

and associated regulations are adhered to – 

assisting clients with legal compliance whilst 

on site. 

Hazardous Waste 

We offer a comprehensive range of COSHH 

(Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) 

waste management services. We provide 240 

and 660 litre wheelie bins to meet your site 

needs, segregating and labelling hazardous 

waste; as well as fluorescent lamp recycling 

and can arrange collection and disposal using 

our team of ADR licenced drivers. Where 

practicable, these materials are recycled or 

re-used, or are processed and disposed of 

at a suitably licensed facility, ensuring legal 

and duty of care requirements are met. We 

manage and review the chain of custody 

process ensuring full traceability. 

COSHH waste may include items like empty 

paint tins, solvent and mastic containers, oily 

rags and aerosols.

Skips 

We offer a full range of skips from 4 cubic 

yards right up to 40. We also provide certified 

lifting skips as well as lockable skips. 

Our ‘wait & load’ service gives complete 

flexibility and where necessary, we can 

help with local authority permits and supply 

covers and lights. 

Road sweepers 

Keep sites and roads clear and compliant with 

our range of road sweepers, operated by our 

fully-qualified drivers. 

Aggregates 

Our recycling plants crush and grade 

construction waste to WRAP quality 

protocols. We can provide specified materials 

including Type 2 crushed concrete, concrete 

fines, 6F1 and 6F2, crushed brick, hardcore 

and screened topsoil. All our recycled 

materials come with a quality certification. 

At our recycling facility we use state-of-theart 

machinery to process construction and 

demolition site waste into 100% recycled 

aggregates. We also supply quarried 

aggregate and stone.

Wheelie bins and compactor lorries 

Hiring wheelie bins is the ideal solution for 

limited site access or space. Our compactor 

vehicles empty the wheelie bins at the time 

of your choosing and the bins come in a 

variety of sizes. 

Grabs 

The perfect solution for awkward to access 

spaces, our grab lorries provide a quick and 

easy solution for collection of waste or 

delivery of aggregates. 

Caged vehicles 

If you need to hire a caged vehicle, our driver 

will come to you and wait while you load the 

waste. This service is for bulk collections of 

general waste only and cannot be used for 

any hazardous waste. 

A more cost effective option if you have the 

labour and location for the vehicle to be 

parked legally on-road or have access to park 

off-road – eliminating the need to obtain and 

pay for a council permit. We can also arrange 

to load the vehicle for you. 

Waste transfer and material recycling 

We have licenced waste transfer stations 

for the disposal of non-hazardous waste and 

a material recycling facility. 

We aim to reuse and recycle as much as 

possible and divert 100% of waste from 

landfill.

Safety 

Trialing equipment and vehicles 

Sheeting Systems - unobscured views 

to provide the best in safety 

Earlier this year we trialled a new remote control sheeting 

system which has been designed to allow a driver to see 

everything down the side of a vehicle. 

Transcover’s UnderCover sheeting system was fitted to one of 

our hookloaders. Unlike other sheeting systems this sits under 

the body of the vehicle when covered or uncovered and adds no 

extra width as it travels. 

Paul Neal, our Logistics Supervisor said “Other sheeting systems 

can obscure the drivers’ views down the side of the vehicle 

when using their mirrors, yet the storage of the arms in this new 

design allows the driver to see everything down the sides of the 

container.” 

These types of trials are part of our continued strategy to make HGV driving in London safer for drivers and vulnerable road 

users. 

New vehicle trials 

We’ve also trialled a range of latest direct vision HGVs for our fleet this year. 

As part of our close working relationships with vehicle manufacturers we constantly look 

to utilise the best in class vehicles in terms of safety and efficiency. 

We’ve evaluated the Dennis Eagle Elite 6 which offers the latest in unbeatable direct 

vision standards. In our case the Elite 6 chassis has been developed into a grab loader. It’s purpose-built for urban 

operations, the panoramic cab gives our drivers an unparalleled standard of visibility and cyclist safety, while the low 

driving position and narrowed ‘A’ and ‘B’ posts aid peripheral vision for an unobscured view. 

The other vehicle was the Scania Urban Tipper which has been specified to allow for 

up to 90% of its driving time being on public highways. Specifically this vehicle has 

full air suspension meaning the chassis height can be lowered in urban areas, thereby 

improving the driver’s direct vision of vulnerable road users. The suspension can then 

be raised to increase ground clearance when working on site. 

Designed in response to the need to reduce risk to cyclists and pedestrians, the 

Urban Tipper is also equipped with a large glass panel in the passenger door, to give 

the driver direct line of sight to the front nearside of the vehicle. 

Lastly we also trialled the Volvo FM500, an 8x4 low-ride grab which has a lowered cab 

and full air suspension. All lorries have undergone extensive trials within our dayto-day 

operations and we look forward to seeing what’s next from the manufacturers, particularly in relation to the Direct 

Vision Standard.

Accreditation to industry standards 

This year we achieved our FORS Gold accreditation for the sixth 

consecutive year. It’s great to see that the programme has become 

hugely successful and is now in force across the whole of the UK, 

with fleets of all sizes and types recognising the benefits of being 

FORS members. 

Being part of FORS has helped us to continue to improve our 

operations and investment in our fleet, the information and 

support we receive is invaluable. We believe that being a member 

of FORS is a clear demonstration of our commitment to continue 

developing our driver training strategy, reducing risk to vulnerable 

road users and focus on road safety and sustainable practices. 

The future of cycling in the UK 

As an associate member of the All Parliamentary Cycling Group 

(APCG), in February we went along to the Houses of Parliament 

to hear Andrew Jones MP, Minister for Cycling, speak on a range 

of subjects including planned investments, road safety and air 

quality. 

The APCG is an informal cross-party group, which has no official 

status within Parliament. It’s run by Members of the Commons 

and Lords and involves a range of individuals and organisations 

from outside Parliament. The aims of the group are to get more 

people cycling in the UK, develop recommendations that result 

in changes to government policy; to look at road design, speed 

limits, training, education and much more. 

It’s great to be involved at this level with the APCG and to help 

influence Parliament at a local and national level.

Exchanging places

“At O’Donovan Waste we believe the Exchanging Places initiative is vital 

to strengthen interactions between lorry drivers and vulnerable road 

users. It’s important for hauliers to collaborate with road users so that both 

have a joint understanding of the other’s experience and expectations.”

Cycling in the city 

In May we were thrilled to get involved with 

the 2017 Tour Series, a cycling competition 

involving some of our country’s top Olympians 

and professional cyclists. We were invited to 

run an Exchanging Places event at the Tour 

at Wembley Park. It was the first time the 

Series had held an event at the park and the 

race circuit took in the concourse of Wembley 

Stadium and Olympic Way. 

We were on hand with one of our lorries to give 

people the chance to sit inside the cab and chat 

with our Logistics Supervisor Paul Neal - an 

approach which encourages mutual learning 

and understanding. 

“Cycling has many health benefits and it’s 

also great for the environment. Whilst 

encouraging people to get on their bikes and 

get active, we’re keen to raise awareness of the 

importance of road safety for cyclists, and we’re 

happy to be working with O’Donovan to achieve 

this”.

Park2Park 

On 14 June we took part in Haringey’s Park2Park celebrations which saw 150 children from 12 local schools go on a mass bike 

ride to celebrate passing the Bikeability course. The ride also included a picnic at Finsbury Park (below) and we used this 

opportunity to show the children exactly what our drivers see from their cabs. As a local family firm, it’s really important for us 

to give back to our community and educating the next generation in road safety is a subject close to our heart. It was a great day 

and gave us the chance to catch up with the children from our local schools.

Training - Shaping the Future 

Safe Urban Driving 

Our drivers regularly undertake a full range of Driver 

CPC training courses to ensure their knowledge and 

skills are as current as possible. 

In early 2017 a group of our drivers took part in a 

Safe Urban Driving (SUD) course, which is essential 

training for all HGV drivers. This is particularly the 

case for O’Donovan drivers as so much of our work 

is on urban routes that involve high volumes of 

vulnerable road users. 

The SUD course also helps us continue to meet the 

requirements of being a Gold FORS operator and 

CLOCS compliant. SUD is quite different from the 

usual classroom-based training we do, as it requires 

drivers to step slightly out of their comfort zones and 

take to the road on bikes! 

This element of the course really gives the driver a 

different perspective of the road from the saddle. 

Although sometimes reluctant to get on their bikes, all our drivers really see the benefits once they’ve completed this one 

day course. 

LoCITY Driving 

As part of our continued commitment to raising professional standards across our workforce we introduced a new LoCITY 

Driving training course. 

The course, which is produced by LoCITY, FORS Professional and Transport 

for London, helps drivers and transport managers save fuel and reduce 

the environmental impact of commercial vehicles. It’s a DVSA-approved, 

classroom-based module that focuses on minimising the environmental 

impact of vans and HGVs by reducing emissions through the use of prejourney 

planning and vehicle checks, fuel-efficient driving and alternative 

fuels. 

LoCITY driving contributes to the 35 hours of periodic training that lorry 

drivers must complete every five years to keep their Driver CPC valid. The 

courses have been delivered by Jacqueline on-site at our headquarters in 

Tottenham to over 40 drivers and managers. 

It’s this type of training that will help us continue to reduce the impact of our 

operation on the environment and is also a great opportunity for our teams 

to share technique and best practice with each other.

Collision Management 

Staff have recently taken part in two new training sessions available to us through 

our FORS accreditation. The Road Risk Champion and Collision Investigator 

courses provide practical, effective and logical solutions for managing, reporting, 

investigating, monitoring and minimising road traffic collisions and other transport 

related incidents. 

The knowledge gained has better helped our managerial team who have 

responsibility for our transport operations. In addition to learning how to develop 

collision policies and procedures, initiatives for our staff and measure and monitor 

performance, the team were also given an understanding on how to investigate 

road traffic incidents. 

Construction Logistics Planning 

In conjunction with the Construction Logistics Programme, which 

aims to reduce the impact of construction logistics, the Chartered 

Institute of Logistics and Transport has recently created two new 

courses in Construction Logistics Planning. These are delivered 

as Foundation and Practitioner courses and staff have recently 

undertaken both. 

A Construction Logistics Plan forms part of the planning consent 

process and provides the framework to minimise the impact of 

construction logistics. The courses provide information on the 

latest Construction Logistics Plan (CLP) guidance and supports 

those involved in the preparation, assessment and delivery of 

CLPs. 

FORS Practitioner 

The FORS Practitioner qualification is optional for individuals within FORS 

accredited companies. We took part in this pilot having had two members of staff 

previously achieve Practitioner status. This Recertification Workshop pilot offers 

current Practitioners the chance to refresh their knowledge and understand the 

changes to the FORS Standard. We were pleased to join industry peers at the pilot 

to contribute our feedback. 

We sent five of our drivers on another pilot course for HS2 training – as HS2 is 

largely a rural project and the safety risks are different, this Driver CPC course 

focuses on safe countryside driving and the contractual requirements for the 

project. Feedback on the pilot from our drivers was great:

“The introduction to HS2 was very good and provided great insight into the project. ‘Rural Road Risks’ is a subject I haven’t 

covered before as most of our work is carried out inside London. Due to where HS2 will run, this section was relevant and 

very interesting. The ‘Designated Routes’ section was also vital, given the need to navigate country lanes and low bridges 

for HS2 work”.

Heritage 

Welcomed into 

an ancient tradition 

In the 500th year of the Worshipful Company of Carmen our 

MD Jacqueline joined one of the ancient livery companies 

of the City of London. Dating all the way back to the 13th 

Century the Carmen was founded in 1517 as the 77th livery 

company of the City of London. Today the fellowship of the 

Carmen reflects the transport industry as the lifeblood of 

the UK’s economy. 

Jacqueline was thrilled to be admitted as a Freeman of the 

Company and joins almost 700 other members in one of the 

largest Livery Companies of the City of London. 

Shortly after the Carmen ceremony, Jacqueline went on to be 

admitted into the Freedom of the City of London. Members 

of the Company of Carmen are generally encouraged to 

apply for the Freedom and Jacqueline’s ceremony took place 

in April. 

Initially, in its earliest times, the Freedom of the City was an 

essential requirement for all who wished to carry out business and prosper in trade within the Square Mile. Today most of 

the practical reasons have disappeared, but it remains a unique part of London’s history to which many people have been 

proud to be admitted. 

The ceremony itself takes place in the Chamberlain’s 

Court at Guildhall, during which Jacqueline was required 

to read the Declaration of a Freeman (pictured left) and 

to sign the Freeman’s Declaration Book. 

The Clerk of the Court presented Jacqueline with a Copy 

of the Freedom together with a copy of the ‘Rules for the 

conduct of life’ which date from the mid-18th Century.

O’Donovan’s roots 

remembering Joe 

We were extremely proud to unveil the Joe O’Donovan 

room at the Hammersmith Irish Cultural Centre (ICC) in 

July. The ICC was established in 1995 and is committed to 

sharing its culture with its neighbours in London’s diverse 

community. It plays a huge part in the lives of the Irish 

community in London and beyond. 

More recently the Centre has undergone a major facelift 

with a new facility being built and fitted out. This huge 

project has achieved a significant amount in a very short 

space of time and is now in the final mile in terms of 

completion. So it gave us a great feeling of satisfaction 

to help a little bit by providing the Joe O’Donovan room, in 

honour of our company’s founder. 

Michael O’Donovan said: “To see the plaque really brought 

home how proud we all are of our Dad and also of the 

legacy he left us - the evening was quite emotional. We are really pleased that we could help out with the new ICC”

Our Industry 

Standards 

for the future 

This year has seen London’s Mayor look to accelerate two standards for our industry: direct vision HGVs early in the year, 

shortly followed by the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). Both of these, whilst needed to help improve safety and air quality 

in the capital, have the potential to significantly damage our industry. The issue surrounding both standards is the speed in 

which the Mayor expects them to be implemented - there’s the potential for both to negatively impact many of the smaller 

operators who work in and around London. 

Direct Vision 

With the potential to affect 35,000 HGVs by 2020, the standard will assign 

star ratings on in-cab visibility and only those with the highest rating would 

be allowed to enter London. This will mean all zero-star rated vehicles will be 

banned by 2020 and by 2024 only those HGVs with three-stars or above will 

be allowed on London’s streets. 

Ultra Low Emission Zone 

With plans for the ULEZ to also come into force earlier than the original 

date, fleet operators have been warned to prepare for ‘prohibitively high’ charges 

for operating older vehicles. Within two years only lorries with Euro VI engines will 

be permitted to enter London’s ULEZ free of charge, exposing those who don’t have 

these engines to a £100 fee to enter the Zone from 8 April 2019. 

It goes without saying we totally agree that we have to do everything possible to help 

reduce both emissions and the number of casualties on our roads. Such rushed plans 

are unlikely to be the answer to the safety and air quality challenges faced by London.

Meet the Team 2017 

We’re very proud of our ever-growing team of skilled employees - we have 

over 160 members of staff in a range of roles across our business. Below 

we’re introducing just a few people who make up the O’Donovan team. 

Richard Clarke - Commercial Director 

As Commercial Director, my role is extremely varied and primarily is to support the 

Managing Director in driving business forward in terms of the commercial success of 

the business, operations, recruitment, HR and special projects. 

What has been your biggest business challenge? 

In 2017 it has probably been getting to grips with the complexities of the new 

Apprenticeship Levy so that we can look to make the most of it both in terms of 

training opportunities for our employees, as well as the overall training strategy of 

the company. 

Ganimete Shabani - Financial Controller 

I support the Managing Director in terms of our financial success. My profession and 

role is so enjoyable because things never stand still. It’s a constant journey of 

professional and personal development and learning . I also get great satisfaction 

identifying and implementing cost-savings for the company, as well as the 

negotiating aspects of my role. 

What will you be spending more on in the next year? 

I love my holidays, so I’d hope to be able to spend some more time travelling! 

Lee Hayhow - Operations Officer 

Working closely with the CEO and MD my role is to maintain compliance throughout 

our five depots by implementing new operational methods to increase efficiency. I 

also keep the company up to date with changing legislation and I’m a qualified trainer 

for the Driver CPC programme delivered at our head office. I also hold a WAMITAB COTC 

& CPC in road haulage and a Chartered Fellow of the CILT and CIWM. My training with 

O’Donovan started in earnest 15 years ago with Jacqueline as my mentor and I still 

learn something every day. 

If you could change one thing about the industry, what would it be? 

It would be the complexities of business regulators, but I think I would be lying as I 

love a challenge! 

Emma Brophy - PR Manager 

I’m part of the PR and Marketing team helping ensure our key news and CSR activities 

are communicated via press and social media platforms; all of which in turn helps 

promote our services and maximise on business opportunities. My role includes 

developing partnerships with industry organisations, as well as maintaining 

relationships with the media to raise the profile of the company and brand. 

What single thing would improve the quality of your life? 

That’s simple! To have more hours in the day to do all the things I want to do. Failing 

that, I’d love to be able to transport myself from place to place just by clicking my heels 

together.

Irish World Awards 

Cycle Safety 

Jacqueline was recognised for her commitment to cyclist safety in 

London at the 30th anniversary of The Irish World Awards. Jacqueline 

was presented with the award in recognition of her passion and drive to 

fundamentally improve road safety in the capital and championing the 

protection of cyclists and other vulnerable road users. 

Tip-Ex Tank Ex 

Tipper Haulier of the Year and Personality of the Year 

Not one, but two awards were presented at the annual Tip-Ex awards: Tipper Haulier of the Year and 

Personality of the Year for Jacqueline. 

Known as the UK tipping industry’s Oscar, Tipper Haulier of the Year is a highly prestigious accolade 

which was awarded for demonstrating an outstanding business strategy and an unwavering 

commitment to safety, training and the environment.

Jacqueline was thrilled to collect 

this award in recognition of

The awards programme was first launched to raise awareness of the 

varied opportunities within transport and logistics, whilst creating 

visible role models to inspire and encourage more women to pursue a 

career in the industry. 

Maxine Benson, MBE and co-founder of everywoman commented “We 

are proud to recognise individuals who are transforming the industry 

through their tenacity, passion for innovation and commitment to 

mentoring the next generation”.

Jacqueline said “I’m delighted to receive this award and would like to

as an Industry Champion is an absolute honour, and I’m proud to collect 

this award on behalf of my family and staff.”

Our commitment to employee learning and development was recognised at the Chartered Institute of 

Wastes Management (CIWM) Sustainability and Resource Awards. 

We received the Roger Hewitt Learning and Development Award which recognises the highest level of 

achievement and entered by waste organisations from across the UK.

We enjoyed a successful evening at the Federation of Small Businesses London Business awards in 

July, collecting two awards on the night. 

Winning these two awards is testament to our commitment to staff training and development and 

our drive to improve environmental performance across our entire operation. 

We were proud to join the best and brightest of London’s small business community at this year’s 

fifth annual award ceremony; which recognises individuals, 

teams and businesses leading the way across the region.

Awards 2017 

Jacqueline awarded highest honour 

by President of Ireland for services to 

Irish community abroad 

The Presidential awards took place in November at the a ceremony held in the 

official residence of the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins. 

Established in 2011 following the Global Irish Economic Forum, the awards 

recognise the contribution of members of the Irish community abroad. Other 

award recipients include Liam Neeson, Bernard Canavan, Denis Mulcahy and 

Mary.T.Murphy. 

As a highly respected and successful member of the Irish business community and a prominent and active member of a 

number of Irish business networks, Jacqueline is passionate about her Irish heritage. This is reflected in the extraordinary 

work she does for the Irish community in London, including her role as Trustee for the Irish Youth Foundation, as well as 

an Executive Board Member of the Women’s Irish Network. 

Jacqueline is a generous supporter of the GAA in London, as well as a number of Irish charities including the Brent Irish 

Advisory Service, London Irish Centre, Innisfree Housing Association and the Irish Cultural Centre Hammersmith. She was 

also recently announced as the new Chairperson of the St. Patrick’s Festival Ball organising committee. 

On receiving the award Jacqueline said “It is an honour and a privilege to be recognised in this way. I’m delighted to join 

such a prestigious group of individuals who are proud to support their fellow Irish men and women abroad”.

NHS Organ Donation Register 

A subject that’s very close to our hearts is the NHS’ organ donation 

register. O’Donovan employee Lee Hayhow’s baby daughter 

was the recipient of a new liver in 2014 and this year we joined 

the campaign to raise money and encourage people to join the 

register. Three years on from her transplant, Lee’s daughter Amy 

is doing amazingly well!

9th June was Wear it Red Day for the British 

Heart Foundation - the team were hard 

at work in their red outfits to show their 

support! 

Riverside School 

We donated hi-vis vests to Riverside School in 

Wood Green so they’re seen when they’re out and 

about! 

Brake Bright Day 

The team wore their brightest clothes in 

support of Brake’s Bright Day as part of Road 

Safety Week. Bright Day reminds drivers to 

slow down and look out for vulnerable road 

users. 

Remembrance Day 

Many of our lorries were decorated with 

poppies for Remembrance Day this 

year.

Taking the plunge for Brake 

Our drivers Paul Neal and Lee Barker took the plunge for road safety charity Brake by abseiling 

from the UK’s tallest sculpture - the ArcelorMittal 

Orbit. 

They made their 80 metre hair-raising journey to 

the ground in the UK’s highest free-fall abseil at the 

iconic Olympic Park in September.

Better Bankside - Metal Box garden scheme 

With poor air quality as one of the most important public health issues facing London, funding 

has been received from the Mayor’s Air Quality Fund to deliver a flagship project for Bankside. 

“Better Bankside’s Clean Air Mini-Neighbourhood programme” is aimed at improving air quality 

in London’s Bankside area and we were thrilled to answer a call for help by the organisers 

of Phase 1 of the programme - the Metal Box garden scheme, which saw a number of skips 

transformed into gardens. 

We helped deliver skip flower beds and it was great to know we were approached due to our 

corporate responsibility credentials. 

The temporary installations are designed to help illustrate how investing in greening the more 

quiet back streets can help support more walking across the neighbourhood and reduce the 

number of business-related vehicle journeys in the immediate area. Shirley Rodrigues, Deputy 

Mayor for Environment and Energy, said: “Better Bankside’s project is a fantastic example of 

a business group using 

funding from the Mayor 

to reduce exposure to 

pollution, at the same time 

as encouraging walking 

and attracting people to 

local shops”.

Mens’ shed 

In support of men who have retired from the 

construction industry we supplied a Portakabin 

to provide a shed for the Innisfree Housing 

Association’s residents in Harlesden. Designed to 

provide a space for Irish elders, the shed will be a 

designated space for them to make items using a range of skills including weaving, carpentry, 

joinery, furniture renovation and much more. 

We were really pleased to be able to support these men who have worked hard in our industry 

and it’s a great way for them to keep active and learn new skills!

Direct Vision 

With more still to be done on the Mayor’s Direct Vision Standard before it comes 

into play in 2020, we continue to grow our fleet by adding more high vision 

lorries, specifically Euro VI low entry skip loaders.

Our website: odonovan.co.uk has recently undergone a complete overhaul to 

give our customers a more user-friendly experience, putting the information at 

customers’ fingertips. We’re very pleased with the new look site and it will be 

going live soon! 

New bespoke Driver CPC course 

Continuing our commitment to raising professional standards across the waste 

and logistics industry, we will launch our second Certificate of Professional 

Competence (CPC) training course called ‘How to do it right’. 

As well as furthering industry best practice, the programme aims to facilitate 

knowledge sharing across the industry. 

WAMITAB approval 

We’re working towards becoming a WAMITAB accredited training centre, which 

will enable us to deliver industry-relevant training to the highest standards and 

provide the best possible experience for our learners.
