2 | November 21, 2019 | 22nd century media holiday guide 22ndCenturyMedia.com Glencoe 150: Looking back on a year of celebration In looking back on 2019 and the Village of Glencoe’s Sesquicentennial year, it’s hard to imagine how any more excitement and community pride could have been packed into 12 short months. Festivities orchestrated by the Sesquicentennial Planning Committee, in partnership with Glencoe’s many community organizations, invited community members of all ages and interests to partake in the Sesquicentennial through education, celebration, participation and appreciation. From the celebration kick-off at Light the Lights last November, to honoring community members past and present at the Glencoe 150 Hall of Fame Recognition Dinner, to a musical all about Glencoe written and produced by the creative minds at Writers Theatre, to a bigger and better Fourth of July, to a once-in-a-lifetime chance to play nine-holes at each of Glencoe’s three golf courses in one outing, to the Glencoe 150 Gala at the worldclass Chicago Botanic Garden — it has been a momentous year. Beyond these events, the community was inspired to give back through District 35’s We Care for Our World Service Day and the Glencoe Park District’s Big-Hearted Bowls Project, while also learning more about our history through the Glencoe Historical Society’s panel discussions, historical article series, Sesquicentennial Exhibit and Open Doors Glencoe. The Village is truly grateful for the many volunteers and community organizations that made such an inclusive, creative celebration possible; thank you to all those involved. To round out a landmark year, the Sesquicentennial Planning Committee and Glencoe Chamber of Commerce invite you to join us for one last hurrah: Light the Lights from 4-7 p.m. Nov. 29. Spend your evening in downtown Glencoe welcoming the holiday season with the Village’s annual tree lighting ceremony, shopping specials, a Wine and Beer Stroll, a visit from Santa and his reindeer, trackless train rides and more.
