This holiday season, give
the gift of handmade.
On December 6 and 7,
Grovewood Gallery will
be offering a refreshing alternative
to big-box retail
chains during their annual
Holiday Sip & Shop event
Enjoy complimentary
wine and warm cider
while shopping for unique
gift items, including wooden bowls
and utensils, ceramic tableware,
blown glass, fine jewelry, and much
more. You’ll save 10% on gallery
merchandise, and local makers will
demonstrate their craft from 11-4 pm
Grovewood Gallery offers two expansive floors of fine craft, ceramics, and more.
on both days.
On December 6, Asheville artist
Kendall White will demonstrate wet
felting techniques as she creates
one-of-a-kind scarves out of merino
wool rovings. Using only water,
soap, and a bit of elbow grease,
she’ll transform loose wool fiber into
wearable works of art. White was introduced
to fiber art as a child, often
assisting her grandmother, who was
a quilter. Years later, she received
formal training through Appalachian
Center for Craft and at the John C.
Campbell Folk School.
On December 7, local artist Deanna
Lynch will demonstrate some small
stitching work, applique, and mini-quilt
work. Lynch says she has been exploring
these techniques as a way to
add “stories” to her handwoven work.
She will have a few wall hangings in
the gallery that are already framed and
finished. Lynch has been the continuing
education weaving instructor
for Haywood Community College
since 2017 and continues to add new
classes each year.
On December 6 and 7, Asheville fiber
artist Karen Kennedy, a graduate
of Haywood Community College’s
Professional Crafts
Program, will be demonstrating
needle-felting
using locally dyed wool
to create festive holiday
snowmen.
All demonstrating
artists will have original
works of art for sale. The
10% discount does not
apply to demonstrators’
artwork, custom/special orders, or
Lyman Whitaker Wind Sculptures.
About Grovewood Gallery
Established in 1992, Grovewood
Gallery is nationally recognized for its
dedication to fine American art and
craft. Located in historic Grovewood
Village adjacent to The Omni Grove
Park Inn, the gallery is noted for its
charming, old-world setting and rich
craft heritage. This site once housed
the weaving and woodworking
operations of Biltmore Industries, an
Arts and Crafts enterprise - initially
backed by Edith Vanderbilt - that
played a significant role in the Appalachian
Craft Revival during the early
20th century.
The gallery also boasts an outdoor
sculpture garden and presents
rotating exhibitions throughout the
year. Hours are Monday through
Saturday from 10-5:30 pm, and
Sunday from 11-5 pm. Free parking
is available on site.
