Mistletoe Market offers holiday cheer during Ladies Night Out at Orland Crossing
Laurie Fanelli
Freelance Reporter
Orland Crossing is bustling
this time of year, as
holiday shoppers look for
gifts for everyone on their
list.
On Thursday, Dec. 5,
even more holiday cheer
blanketed the shopping
hub during the Mistletoe
Market — the latest installment
of 22nd Century
Media’s Ladies Night Out
event series — as patrons
enjoyed perusing unique
items from more than 70
local vendors. Visits with
Santa, carols from the
and more added to the festive
fun.
“Christmas is my favorite,
and I always have
such a good time,” said
Heather Warthen, chief
events officer for 22nd
Century Media. “The most
important thing we want
to do with these events is
make memories for people.
I want people to think,
‘Hey, I remember seeing
that reindeer when I was
at this event.’ You can be
1-92 [years old] and you’ll
remember where you were
when you first saw live
reindeer.”
Originally, the Mistletoe
Market was slated to
be an outdoor event, but
an opportunity to build
relationships with Mistletoe
Market attendees.
“It’s so great to personally
in your community,”
McLaughlin said. “We see
a lot of people we already
We’re overwhelmed by the
Warthen said. “Whatever
you need, we’ve got
for people to finish their
Tinley Park resident
Kim Griese made a point
to stop by her favorite vendor
booth, Gift Basket by
Occasion, to see Rhonda
Kujawa’s holiday creations.
“They’re fantastic,” Griese
said. “There’s such a
variety, and it’s not only
about what’s in it; it’s the
basket itself. It pulls in
everything you want. I
bought a basket before,
and my husband and I put
it in our dining room and
stared at it for a month
because we didn’t want to
wreck the basket.”
Free tote bags, courtesy
of Artistic Med Spa, were
handed out to the first 200
attendees, and Mistletoe
Market patrons were encouraged
to bring a new,
unwrapped toy to benefit
local charities.
The Mistletoe Market
was the last of the Ladies
Night Out series of the
year as well as the final
22nd Century Media expo
for 2019, and event organizers
are already looking
forward to 2020. The annual
Healthy Living Expo
is to be held at the Tinley
Park Convention Center
on Jan. 18, and the Lady
Expo — also held at the
convention center — is
slated for Derby Day, May
