Police reports
Car allegedly stolen from delivery driver
A vehicle was reported
stolen Nov. 24 from the
7200 block of Benton
Drive. According to the
Will County Sheriff’s Office,
a delivery driver from
Rich’s Pizza Joint ran into
the store around 8:30 p.m.,
leaving his vehicle’s doors
unlocked and the engine
running. When the driver
returned about 10 minutes
later, the vehicle, a 2014
Dodge Avenger, was gone.
Nov. 28
• Alexander A. Attar, 18,
of 11515 Myrrh Lane in
Frankfort, was cited in the
area of Settlers Pond Drive
and Lincoln Highway for
alleged reckless driving,
failure to signal, speeding,
failure to yield at a stop
sign, illegal screeching of
tires and improper lane usage.
According to Keegan,
an officer observed a green
Jeep Cherokee traveling
westbound on Nebraska
Road from Penny Lane
while making a loud engine
noise. The vehicle reportedly
made a right turn
onto 108th Avenue without
stopping at the stop sign or
signaling and then turned
westbound onto Pioneer
Trail at a high rate of
speed, causing the wheels
to screech. The officer conducted
a traffic stop on the
vehicle and met with the
driver, later identified as
Attar. Keegan said the officer
noted Attar’s breath
smelled of alcohol and he
had glassy, red eyes and
slurred speech when responding
to questions. The
front of the vehicle allegedly
had heavy damage and
fresh white paint transfer,
and another officer noticed
a damaged mailbox lying
in the roadway in the 10900
block of Pioneer Trail.
Nov. 23
• Stacey Santoro-Murphy,
44, of 24448 S. 88th Ave.
in Frankfort, was cited for
alleged DUI in the area of
South 88th Avenue and
West Dralle Road.
Frankfort
T-Mobile allegedly
burglarized
Nuria Mathog, Editor
Two teenagers reportedly
stole merchandise
worth thousands of dollars
from the Frankfort
T-Mobile store on La
Grange Road the afternoon
of Nov. 27.
Frankfort Deputy Police
Chief Kevin Keegan
said the two subjects entered
the store at around
4:20 p.m. and stole several
display projects.
While the products were
tethered with a security
cable, the subjects were
able to remove the merchandise
forcefully.
Keegan said the first
teen was wearing a black
hoodie, while the second
teen wore a Cubs hoodie,
had dreadlocks and used a
ski mask to cover his face.
Both teens were described
as male and black.
Several thousand dollars
worth of merchandise
was taken from the
store, Keegan said.
Frankfort Township opposes Matteson Casino
Submitted by Frankfort
Township
The Frankfort Township
Board on Dec. 3 called
upon the Illinois Gaming
Board to deny the location
of a proposed casino
in Matteson at the corner
of Harlem Avenue and
Lincoln Highway. Multiple
reasons led to the
Board’s opposition of the
casino location, including
the close proximity
to two schools and three
densely populated residential
neighborhoods. The
request was made through
a letter sent to the Illinois
Gaming Board.
“The proposed location
for this casino is inappropriate,”
said Frankfort
Township Supervisor Jim
Moustis. “Casino gambling
should be located
farther from school children
and residential neighborhoods
than the selected
site. A more commercial
location would be appropriate
for a casino than
directly adjacent to residential
neighborhoods and
schools.”
The current site selected
by the Village of Matteson
is directly across the street
from Frankfort Square, a
densely populated residential
area with nearly 10,000
residents. Summit Hill Junior
High School is less
than a half a mile from the
proposed casino location
and Indian Trail Elementary
School is less than one
mile from the site. Harlem
Avenue marks the boundary
between Matteson and
Frankfort Township.
Residents have voiced
concerns about the casino
that would be adjacent to
their homes but out of the
jurisdiction of their local
government. A casino
would lead to increased
traffic and a strain on local
infrastructure while providing
no tax revenue to
local governments west of
Harlem Avenue. Residents
have also voiced concern
over a decrease in property
values because of the close
proximity to the proposed
casino site.
“The current site location
will have tremendous
impact on our residents
and our local infrastructure
without the corresponding
revenue to address those
impacts,” said Frankfort
Township Trustee Dave
Smith. “This is not an appropriate
location for a
casino, and we are asking
the Village of Matteson to
look into other more appropriate
locations.”
Since the inception of
the riverboat gaming act in
1993, casinos are intended
to be located in areas that
are ripe for economic reinvestment.
“This area is flourishing,”
Frankfort Township
Trustee Nick George said.
“We don’t need a casino
here. It should be located
in a commercial area that
needs reinvestment.”
