XXXXNCCOMMUNITYWith such a wealth of comicsuperhero material to drawfrom, it’s no surprise that aparody about a group of friends whomust learn how to fight a Scottishgalactic villain would be well-receivedby the great crowds that flocked toThe Averagers over three nightsfrom 31 October to 2 November. Infact, many have been claiming thisNew College Students’ AssociationRevue to be the best they’ve seen todate. The script was slick and fullof surprises. The backdrop and setswere a startling imitation of comicbooks and animation. The main storywas complemented by a variety ofnostalgic songs direct from superheromovies, performed by no less than20 highly talented collegians and noshortage of saxophonists. The danceswere a choreographic marvel (punvery much intended). The skits andfillers continually had everyone institches, and even the tech desk hadtheir moment to shine. A real highlightwas the Revue film, depicting theintegration of superheroes into collegelife, hilariously commentated by theMaster, Bill Peirson, and featuring acameo by New College receptionist,Vicki, who now intends to watch thefilm that her scene was derived from.All in all, directors Andrew Burvilland Sam Pietsch, and producersMaddie Sedgwick, Melody Rangerand Tom Tugwell, created somethinginfinitely more than average.
