We made it together and for most of us it ended up to be better than expected. SO much has been happening over the last couple of months in our industry and the world. We have impeachment, an election this coming November, stock market ups-and-downs and stores opening and closing quicker than ever. There’s a lot to take in, but even through the turmoil consumer confidence has remained high and a better than expected holiday season came and went. FROM all indications we should be continuing on firm footing in our businesses. Smart retailers took note of the increased amount of online shopping this past season and have been ramping up their websites and offerings for the new year. Others are reconfiguring their selling spaces with many retailers downsizing a bit to improve their bottom lines and make more efficient use of their space. The Toys ‘R Us comeback was a perfect example of reducing store footprint by 50-75% from the old models. THE tallies are still not in yet but the holiday season appears to have easily surpassed the prior one. One of the biggest changes was that Black Friday in-store sales were down around one million dollars while Cyber Monday on-line sales were up over 2% from last season. So the trend does continue with online buying and it’s important to focus your efforts in that direction. WITH the new year comes enthusiasm in the marketplace. Many stores and online sites have depleted their inventory and are looking for new and exciting merchandise. That is why we dedicated this issue and month for Restocking. WHAT sold last year may not sell well again for 2020. Take advantage of our wholesalers here to try new products so you are offering fresh merchandise to your shoppers. They came into your store last month to shop and you now need to create a new look and experience for them to return. Keep it fresh and you will see good profits this first quarter. SPEED into 2020 with a gusto and set new goals for your business and yourself. Take advantage of the opportunities to come and work to “Keep Your Store Great” this year.
