Learn How To Play

I always wanted to learn the piano

but never had the time until now

that I have the time. I always

wanted to play he Summer Of 42

and other memories.

Children very often have to be

persuaded to practice and attend

piano lessons. Adults, on the

other hand, don’t need to be

dragged, kicking and screaming,

to their piano teachers. Adult piano

lessons are thus almost invariably

a pleasure for both student and

teacher.

Adults have highly developed

logical and critical thinking skills. It

is often thought that playing music

is a purely creative, right-brained

act, but this is by no means the

case. As the most emotional of

the arts, music indeed favors the

Dionysian right brain compared to

the Apollonian left.

Adults can learn complex concepts

much more easily and understand

technical explanations. This makes

it possible for adults to learn music

theory and analysis far more easily

than do children.

The importance of being able to

analyze and understand a piece of

music from the beginning of study

cannot be overstated. Nothing

is more common than students

who attain skill on an instrument

but who have only a rudimentary

understanding of the music, which

severely limits their playing in ways

they cannot imagine.

Adults have developed attention

spans. Children’s attention spans,

by contrast, are often limited to

only a few minutes at a time. It

takes careful concentration to

learn the piano, and adults have

a considerable advantage in this

regard.

developed. Music, after all, is the

most directly emotional of the

arts, and its wide spectrum of

emotions can only be expressed

and comprehended by those who

have experienced those emotions

themselves.

Adults are able to read fluently. By

contrast, very young children can’t

yet read letters or numbers, which

necessitates more basic teaching

methods. Note names, musical

instructions and fingering numbers

are not the only things that require

the ability to read letters and

numbers: the fascinating areas of

music history and theory, so critical

to playing music competently, do as

well.

By definition, adults are fully

grown, whereas children have asyet

undeveloped muscles. While

the hands themselves can and

should gain flexibility and strength

from practicing piano (and the

hand span can even increase), the

fingers and palms of adults are fully

grown.

This simple advantage should

not be overlooked in music

education. Children who play string

instruments, for instance, are

forced to adapt to instruments of

different sizes as they grow. The

violin, for instance, comes in fully

eight different sizes! The piano

keyboard, by contrast, is only

available in one size.

Remember, it is never too late

to learn music! If you’re an adult

wishing to commence or resume

piano playing,

There are several teachers in the

Sandhills that can help you out.

Julian had been training for that

That’s when he started working

Another Veal client, one who came

To some, Trevor Lawrence’s rise

was an anomaly, a once-in-a-generation

event. But to others, the

freshman’s success was a logical

conclusion. “The evolution of our

game continues to speed up,”

says Missouri coach Barry Odom.

“The mental approach it takes to

play quarterback, they’re learning

that earlier and earlier.”

College programs are setting records

for their youth on the field. At

“Guys like Jake Fromm, Tua Tagovailoa

Elect

Bob Temme

To Have A Voice In Raleigh

Moore County has an opportunity

to have a new voice in Raleigh. Bob

Temme, the Chief of the Southern

Pines Police Department is running

for the North Carolina House

of Representatives in District 52,

which encompasses the majority,

but not all of Moore County. A

primary election will take place

on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, with

“One Stop Early Voting” starting

on February 13, 2020. Bob (Chief)

Temme, is a strong Conservative

Republican, has a unique broad

range of lifelong public service and

education that makes him qualified

to serve as a State Legislator.

Bob is currently the Chief of Police

for the Town of Southern Pines

Police Department, serving as the

Chief of the Department since December

of 2012, and has over thirty

years of law enforcement experience.

In a rare public service twist,

Chief Temme has also amassed,

thirty years of firefighting experience.

Chief Temme stepped down

as the three term President of the

Moore County Law Enforcement

Officers Association this past December

to have the needed additional

time to pursue the position

of State Legislator.

In yet another unique situation,

Bob is also currently an Assistant

Professor, and former Chairman

for the Aviation Department at the

State University of New York and

has publically expressed that he

values education and educators.

When it comes to crafting legislation

surrounding school safety,

Bob brings to the table not only his

extensive law enforcement background,

but also skills that were

gained while serving the State of

North Carolina as the Manager

of the Center for the Prevention

of School Violence for the North

Carolina Department of Juvenile

Justice. This position had a primary

focus on pre-incident planning,

bullying and the overall prevention

of school violence across the state

of North Carolina.

When it comes to an educational

background, Bob has the qualifications

to succeed in the position of

State Legislator with an Associate

of Science degree in Criminal Justice,

a Bachelor of Science degree

in Management and a Master’s in

Business Administration (MBA).

Bob is also a graduate of the F.B.I.

National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

The position of State Legislator is

perhaps the most powerful office

in the county to bring change to

Moore County, and to maintain the

quality of life and character that

makes our collective communities

special.

Bob believes that anyone who is

willing to seek and achieve such a

position must act in a manner that

is in the best interest of Moore

County first, above all else including

one’s self.

A State Representative must be

available, accessible, approachable,

and have the desire to listen

to constituents, not to simply reply,

but rather to understand and

fight on their behalf.

It is with this image that Bob

(Chief) Temme continues his campaign.

It is refreshing to see a

qualified public servant that values

“Service Above Self.”

Miami Gardens will host this year’s

Super Bowl. The NFL is always full

of surprises and memorable moments.

The big finale, the Super

Bowl, is the most-watched game

in any sport in the USA. There are

more than 100 million viewers in

person and behind the TV screens,

all of them eager to watch the most

anticipated annual game. With that

being said, here are some cool and

interesting facts about the Super

Bowls.

According to the U.S. Department

of Agriculture, Super Bowl Sunday

is America’s “second-largest food

consumption day.” (Only Thanksgiving

Day beats it.)

The Vince Lombardi Trophies—a

new one of which is handed out

every year—are made by Tiffany &

Co. out of sterling silver.

Fun Super Bowl Factoids

A persistent rumor says that sewage

systems in major cities occasionally

fail during Super Bowl

halftimes, because a large volume

of people supposedly all flush their

toilets simultaneously.

Peyton Manning is the only starting

quarterback to win a Super

Bowl with two different teams: the

Indianapolis Colts in 2007 and the

Denver Broncos in 2016.

Phil Simms was paid $75,000

to shout “I’m going to Disney

World” on the field moments after

his Giants won Super Bowl XXI.

Which team has lost the most

games? That would be a tie between

the Denver Broncos and

the New England Patriots, who’ve

each dropped five Super Bowl

matchups.

The priciest tickets to Super Bowl

I, which was played on January 15,

1967, cost $12. Adjusted for inflation,

that’s the equivalent of about

$89 today. Be prepared to shell

out at least $2800 per ticket this

year.

In 1980, the Pittsburgh Steelers

were the first Super Bowl-winning

team to visit the White House.

When Jacksonville, Florida, hosted

Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005, the city

didn’t have enough hotel rooms

to meet the NFL’s requirements.

So in their bid to serve as the Big

Game’s host, they had to recruit

five docked cruise ships as “floating

hotels” for the event.

The Super Bowl I halftime show

consisted of two marching bands,

acclaimed trumpeter Al Hirt, two

men in jet packs, and 300 pigeons.

Bands are not paid to play

in the halfime show. “The N.F.L.

does not pay an appearance fee,

though it does cover all of the expenses

for the band and its often

ample entourage of several dozen

stagehands, family and friends.”

In 1983, 105.97 million people

tuned in to the final episode

of M*A*S*H, making it the mostwatched

TV broadcast in American

history. It took more than a quarter-century,

but in February 2010,

Super Bowl XLIV finally broke that

record when 106.5 million people

watched the game. Cleveland

is the only current NFL city

that has neither hosted a Super

Bowl nor seen its own team, the

Browns, make an appearance in

one.

As Don Shula was being carried

off the field after the Dolphins’

Super Bowl win in 1973, a fan

reached up to shake his hand—

and stole his watch.
