I never fully understood how important your professional
satisfaction was to your overall happiness in life until I left
my dream job at P&G to work for myself.
The last few years have been a whirlwind as I’ve gone from
working on Wall Street to working exclusively from my home
office. Change has always been a concept that I’ve been
comfortable with – evident by the lasting friendships and
draw I have to CHCA despite only having transferred in my
junior year.
Despite loving change, New York City is an incredible place
with so much to offer, but it didn’t really fit me as a person.
Leaving JPMorgan was a tough call but in 2016 I decided
to walk away from finance and return to what really made
me tick – consumer behavior. And what better place to do it
than P&G. I was lucky enough to experience multiple roles
on the Consumer & Market Knowledge Team, specializing
in a variety of things ranging from North American media
strategy to global consumer insights. This took me to
six different countries and cemented my passion for the
psychological and data driven world of consumer behavior.
The brilliant work being done across P&G only made it more
clear the opportunities to impact Cincinnati businesses
as well as other businesses globally who can leverage this
innovative approach to business growth. After two incredible
years at P&G, I couldn’t ignore the tug on my heart to create
something of my own and blend my recent experience in
consumer insights innovation with the scientific, data
modeling approach I borrowed from finance. This resulted
in the formation of DeepBridge Consulting, where we just
passed our first birthday, building brands and businesses
through a customer-first strategy.
Optically, my experiences over the past few years have
fluctuated wildly. But similar to CHCA’s approach to
learning, the theme is consistent across variables – you’ll
search endlessly for what you “want” to do until you shift
your focus on finding what you feel you were “meant” to do.
There you’ll find a level of fulfillment you didn’t really ever
consider realistic for you. Sometimes it means abandoning
safe choices and even common sense. Staying intellectually
curious has been the key for me to achieve personal and
financial freedom, while having time for other passions that
refuel me like help coach the Indian Hill High School Boys
Soccer Program.
But with so many exciting changes, one of the most critical
stabilities in my life has been the CHCA community and the
relationships cultivated over the years. I’ve crossed paths
and have collaborated with some former classmates and
CHCA alum doing INCREDIBLE things like David Curtin '09,
Kurt Kersey '08, Andy Garrett '09, and Austin Zekoff '09 to
name a few. I’m excited to see what the future holds!

JANESSA SAMBOLA HARRIS
Janessa studied Political Science at Ohio University where she
was involved with the Association of Black Journalists and College
Democrats, working for President Obama's re-election campaign.
She relocated to Washington, DC to attend graduate school at
George Washington University, where she earned her Masters
degree in Media and Strategic Communications. She worked in
media relations at the Smithsonian National Museum of African
American History and Culture and now does public relations
consulting for reproductive rights and advocacy organizations.
Janessa married Doyen Harris '10 on May 4, 2019.
