PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
I want to welcome each of you to the Swiss
School of Management. SSM is a private
institution of higher learning that not only
meets the standards of today’s professional
world, but exceeds them. The Swiss School of
Management stands for much more than
excellence in business education; it combines
broad theoretical knowledge with
implementation in the marketplace and reallife
situations.
A Wall Street legend who recently passed away,
offered a great piece of advice to college grads.
I would like to share with all of you his
thoughts:
John Angelo, the 74-year-old New Yorker who
led $25 billion investment firm Angelo Gordon
& Co., died Friday, January 1, after a struggle
with cancer.
He cofounded Angelo Gordon and led the firm
for 27 years, and also served on the board of
directors at auction house Sotheby’s.
Angelo returned to his alma mater, St.
Lawrence University in New York, to give a
commencement speech. There, he explained to
graduates what he learned in his decades on
Wall Street.
Doing what you love is part of it, he explained. But, a big part of doing what you love is making
sure you’re good enough at something that you love to do it. He said:
“The truth is we tend to enjoy what we are good at. I promise you, that each of you has a skill
or talent that is unique, that nobody else has. Pursue what you are good at; discover what you
do better than anyone else. And if you do that, you will discover what you love. And once you
dig in to the thing you love and are good at, the future will come more easily and obstacles
will fall away.
Do not be afraid to fail. If you don’t fail you haven’t taken chances. But when you do fail learn
from it. And if you fall at least fall forward closer to your goal.
Never give up on yourselves, never. Life can bring difficult times, but remember that coming
from St. Lawrence is a crucial asset for you. Stay in touch with your friends; seek each other
out as the years roll on and help each other. Remember that in this country the sky is the
limit.”

Master of Business Administration
Angelo, over the first few years of his career working on the bond floor of the New York Stock
Exchange, figured out a few things about himself that he says schools can’t teach. He said:
1. I learned the language of finance
2. I learned to speak quickly
3. I could make mathematical decisions quickly
4. I learned that I could multitask
These are not things that are taught to you in college or business school. But these are the
skill set of a trader in the last half of the 20th century. I never knew I had these skills.
Last but not least, Angelo had one great piece of wisdom that applies to both newly minted
grads and seasoned vets:
“The harder you work, the luckier you get.”
Our goal at SSM is to nurture leaders who can inspire others, demonstrate outstanding skills,
and work in multi-cultural environments. At the Swiss School of Management, you will learn
among a truly international student body as our students come from all over the world. We
are proud of this diversity because it adds to your learning experience. Employers especially
value a student who is adapt for a diverse workplace. Our second goal is to prepare you for
the future. In today’s competitive world nobody however skilled or talented, becomes a
success by themselves.
Studying at the Swiss School of Management is challenging; however, the rewards are
tremendous. In addition to acquiring new knowledge and new ideas, our student network is
global. Many of your classmates will become part of the growing SSM alumni.
I am certain that you will find your experience here inspiring and enjoyable and I wish you all
the best and success in your studies and future careers.
I am looking forward to personally welcome you at Swiss School of Management at Dubai

Sincerely,

Programme Outline
Master of Business Administration
THS555 Final Thesis Project
By the end of the MBA program you will be able to apply what you have learnt to your
company and elaborate your own business project. You will raise your own questions, decide
on methods can be used, and by a comprehensive analysis conclude to your own
recommendations. The summary of that business project called Thesis, should present an
original argument, business case or business plan that is carefully documented from primary
and/or secondary sources.
The thesis must have a substantial research component and a focus that falls within the
scope of topics studied during your specialization. It must be written under the guidance of an
advisor who is knowledgeable in this area of study. As the final element in the master’s degree,
the thesis gives you an opportunity to demonstrate expertise in the chosen research area. The
thesis should present and investigate a hypothesis or a research question.
Alternatively, you can construct a business plan. A business plan is a formal statement of
a set of business goals, the reasons they are believed attainable, and the plan for reaching
those goals. It includes a description of a company or small business, its services and/or
products and how the business will achieve its goals.
The plan includes the overall budget, current and projected financing, a market analysis
and its marketing strategy approach. In a business plan, a business owner projects revenues
and expenses for a certain period of time and describes operational activity and costs related
to the business.
NGS555 Negotiating Globally
Students will learn how to navigate national culture when negotiating deals, resolving
disputes, and making decisions in teams. Rather than offering country-specific protocol and
customs, Negotiating Globally provides a general framework to help negotiators anticipate
and manage cultural differences incorporating the lessons of the latest research with new
emphasis on executing a negotiation strategy and negotiating conflict in multicultural teams.
We explain how to develop a negotiation planning document and shows how to execute the
plan, how the cultural environment affects negotiators’ interests, priorities, and strategies,
hot to distinguish good deals from poor ones and good negotiators from poor ones as well as
how resolving disputes is different from making deals and how negotiation strategy can be
used in multicultural teams.
OBM555 Organizational Behavior and HRM
This course is meant to focus the student to understand the core management principles
which applies to individuals, medium and large organizations. We will cover some concepts
and theories related to human resource management and organizational behavior. The field
of organizational behavior is the study of human behavior within organizations. That is, what
people think, how they feel, why they think, feel and act in a certain way. If we can find
answers to the above questions then we can exercise better control over human behavior and
create a more motivated, efficient and effective functioning organization. In this course we
will study individuals singularly, as well as in the form of teams and groups, and try to get an
9

Master of Business Administration
understanding of individual characteristics and group dynamics that shape individual attitudes
and behaviors. In addition, we will also talk about some system level components like,
organizational culture and major management functions. The main idea behind this course is
to equip students with the knowledge to understand, predict and control human behavior and
help their current or future organizations in becoming more efficient and effective managers.
Further, we will go into the core tasks of a Human Resource Manager and understand the daily
routine in the HRM department.
CPS555 Competitive Strategy
The course intends to demonstrate that decisions affecting the expansion of the firm are
neither obvious nor totally determined by the technological or economic forces generally
associated with globalization. The course focuses on the concepts of Porter as well as SWOT
analysis. Comparisons are drawn between the differences of the fundamental economic,
financial, and political factors affecting the international expansion of the firm from purely
domestic factors. The course studies that the internationalization of the firm is a sequential
decision-making process operating at the country, industry, corporate, business, and
subsidiary levels of analysis. This course introduces students to the subject of strategy and
helps them to better understand the overall impact of internal and external influences on the
firm. The basic purpose of the course is to provide the student broad insights into the practice
of strategic management, and its real significance in contemporary multi-national
corporations.
SMK555 Dynamics of Marketing & Research
This course is designed to serve as an introduction to the theory and practice of both
traditional marketing and digital marketing.
In the first part of the course we will explore the theory and applications of traditional
marketing. It will help students answer the fundamental question of a marketing strategy –
what value to provide and to whom – using the tools of segmentation, targeting, and
positioning (STP) of brands. Through a mix of cases, discussions, lectures, individual
assignments and projects the course will demonstrate how central aspects of the marketing
mix programs – product, place, pricing, and promotion utilize STP and how marketing support
functions such as marketing research, advertising, and new product development can support
effective marketing decisions.
The second part of the course provides an introduction to Digital Marketing. Taking a
practical approach, we will examine the role of digital marketing and many of the areas this
terminology has grown to encompass. In addition to learning fundamental constructs and
principles of the digital experience, students will focus on learning tools and skills necessary
for solving business problems and exploiting business opportunities. In-class exercises will be
utilized to provide insights and relevancy to this swiftly expanding area of marketing.

PRJMGT555 Project Management
Learning features reinforce concepts critical to project management success. Students
practice effective communication while new cases inspire discussion and debate, and new
real-world vignettes demonstrate how to apply concepts in the workplace. New MindTap
digital resources enhance each chapter with videos, quizzes, and case animations. Students
also work with today's popular Microsoft® Project 2016. Find everything your students need
to manage projects effectively in business today.
PRJMGT556 New Trends & Methodologies in Project Management
This course builds upon the learning outcomes of the previous course PRJMGT555. It
furthermore enhances the skills of the students to learn the flexibility needed to lead a
successful project. An "agile" margin callout at the end of each section clearly identifies when
agile projects are performed differently than traditional projects or where they are
emphasized further. In many cases, this adapted or enhanced performance can be used with
modification for more traditional projects. With this text's discussion of human strengths,
students learn how to use positive psychology to understand the unique abilities of
individuals. An appendix describes each strength theme in the project context to better
prepare students to lead and manage project teams effectively.
PRJMGT557 – Project Risk Management
Projects fail because of risks that are discovered too late, are ignored or simply are not sought.
This statement seems trivial at first glance, but it is not so obvious for many stakeholders. With
effective risk management, you keep your project under control and eliminate 90% of all
project problems before they occur. This course is designed to explore the most important
methods and tools how to successfully apply risk management in projects in a practical and
easy-to-use way. You will receive hands-on instructions and tips that you can immediately
implement in your project. Identifying and analyzing uncertainties in areas such as resources,
project scope, technology, leading the project and scheduling is the most important part of
this book. All covered topics in this book are crucial elements of a sound project management
strategy and a good addition to Enterprise Risk Management.

MBA in Logistics Management
Logistics Management
Logistics and Supply Chain Management (SCM) are nowadays accepted as one of the key
concerns of organizations. Dedicated managers are appointed to be responsible for end-toend
pipelines that link supply to demand. The central theme of this module is to argue why
and how organizations can achieve competitive advantages through SCM. Moreover,
organizations compete as supply chains rather than as stand-alone organizations. This module
sets the stage for developing logistics and supply chain solutions that are flexible and capable
of adapting to the revolutionary changes in the business environment.
The module will zoom in on core concepts of logistics, supply chains and competitive
strategies, including delivering customer value (from SCM to demand network management);
management of (new) channels of distribution, including e-commerce; performance
indicators; lead-time management; the role of information in the supply chain; service
logistics; and management of global supply chains.
In addition to the theory, this module – like many modules – will introduce the student to
practical models and tools with clear examples that have proven their usefulness to many
organizations. In this module, the focus will be on tools in general management; general
problem-solving tools; performance management; financial management.
Distribution Management
The logistics industry is changing rapidly and radically, and growing in importance. The
required knowledge and skills of logistics managers and staff levels the increased
responsibilities and the scope that working in logistics entail. This module helps (future)
logistics managers in their quest to improve service and reduce cost, and makes them aware
of the many different aspects of logistics and the supply chain. The module is aimed at both

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years time, I see myself having lived in 1-2 more countries gaining experience with
international companies while building my own. After 5 years, I hope to have gained enough
knowledge and experience to launch a global business.
So you finished your classes in 2018, tell us about your experience after your
MBA Degree Program.
After finishing my MBA, I have been able to continue to grow in my current career path
working for an international school. Most of the courses I took while attending SSM such as
Marketing Dynamics, Human Resource Management, and Global Management and
Leadership have been directly applicable to my current job. It’s been an amazing experience
to be able to see the knowledge and skills I gained during the program, being used to
improve in my current role. I’ve been able to convert my study permit into an Italian work
permit, which is a long-term goal I have been working on for the last 3 years. I’m absolutely
thrilled to be working in this international job setting. I feel have I grown immensely not only

in terms of finding direction towards my career goals, but also as a person. I have become
more decisive, more driven to achieve my goals, more fearless in going for the things I want
out of life, and more aware of the skill set I have! I think the biggest gift SSM has given me,
was showing me all that I have to offer to the world, and helping me see my own value and
potential.
Can you share an experience that is most memorable with relation to the
MBA Degree program?
I would say my most memorable experience while studying at SSM, was creating the vision
board during one of my first classes at SSM. Now I don’t want to give this away, since it’s
definitely a highlight, but it was super amazing to put your goals on paper, and start to see
them come to life throughout the year. I also will never forget when we presented our life
story and strengths and weaknesses to our peers. I think that this program taught me so
much more about myself as a person, and made me reflect on so many aspects of my life!
What was your favourite class in the program and why?
My favorite classes were Negotiating Globally with Dr. Massimiliano Bracalé and Marketing
Dynamics with Mr. Gianni Manente. Negotiating Globally was such an important and
practical class for me. Dr. Massimiliano Bracalé really taught me the importance of how to
speak up for myself and demand my worth! I struggle a lot with that, but in business, this is
the KEY! I’ve already been able to use what I learned in the course multiple times, both in my
career, and just in my day to day life! The Marketing Dynamics course on the other hand,
showed me an aspect of business I’m truly passionate about, but also helped me learn so
much which I could directly apply to my current job! I began that course the same month I
started working on marketing projects for my school, and I’m so thankful for everything Mr.
Manente taught me.
What do you think differentiates this MBA from other MBA programs?
The flexibility and support offered by the faculty of these courses make it stand out from all
the others in Rome. You’re able to continue to work by attending night courses, and it was
amazing to see how many people with careers were in my courses were working to better
their skills and themselves. The SSM faculty is so supportive and understanding, and each
professor brings their own unique personality and knowledge to the team. I would say the
international environment is one I haven’t seen anywhere else. I made amazing friends with
people from all over the world, and those friendships have continued to flourish across seas
even after the program. I’ve also bonded with many of my professors and been able to learn
so much from them both inside and outside the classroom and for this I am thankful.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years time I see myself as a senior manager in an international company, or, perhaps, I
could already be running my own.
So, you finished MBA classes in 2018, tell us about your experience after your

After having completed the SSM MBA program, I feel like my perspective on a lot of things
has broadened and I have learnt a lot not only regarding finance, but also unexpected
subjects like philosophy. The leadership course has been an eye opener, and I have used the
skillset acquired through the program in my current job, motivating colleagues and leading
various projects for the school. Knowing that I can now add MBA amongst my titles brings
me great pride, as well as gratitude for the helpful and welcoming atmosphere I found at
SSM.
If you could describe your experience in Rome during your MBA how would
you sum it up?
It has been a great year, a year of change. Working during the day and attending the MBA in
the evening, both working and studying on weekends, it was very tough at times, but it was
worth it. I had collaborative course mates, great lecturers, and a lot of support from friends
and family. This led me to push myself and discover my capabilities. I’d like to add that it was
fun too. If I could, I would do it all over again!

What was your favourite class in the program and why?
One of the best courses we took was Competitive Strategy with Paolo Bongarzoni, as well as
Negotiating Globally with Dr. Massimiliano Bracalé. These two courses were the ones that I
was able to apply to my job the most, so they stayed with me.
What do you think differentiates this MBA from other MBA programs?
The main difference, which convinced me to attend, was the variety of courses offered on
the program and the fact that it works its schedule around the needs of people with jobs.
The beautiful welcoming atmosphere pushed me forward and the price is very convenient
compared to other MBA’s, especially considering the quality of the education you’re getting.
Now that I have taken the course, I can say that the variety of professors also adds to the
program, and the SSM team is very helpful and offers its support through any possible
situation.
I highly recommend it.

I have a very pleasant experience with Swiss School of Management. I learned a
lot through the lectures of highly qualified and experienced professors. The
assignments were very well-designed since most of the problems are application
problems or regarding real-life functions where I had to apply all the theories I
learned instead of just memorizing them. Each module has sharpened my
knowledge.
MBA with Swiss School of Management enforced my pursuit of becoming a
manager. Not only did it provide an insider's look at the role of the manager and
all the responsibilities in that role, but it also introduced me to other important
aspects in the processes.
Even though I have a full-time job, the flexible schedule made it easy for me to
attend classes.
I am also very pleased with the helpfulness and kindness of all the support staff
