California African-American Museum<br />

(CAAM)<br />

In conjunction with Black History Month, <strong>OLLI</strong> takes its annual field<br />

trip to the California African-American Museum. We will have a<br />

docent-led tour of current exhibits. The tour will take 45 minutes<br />

to one hour, and will cover the following three exhibits: Dust My<br />

Broom: Southern Vernacular; Making Mammy: A Caricature<br />

of Black Womanhood; Cross Colours: Black Fashion in the<br />

20th Century and time permiting, Timothy Washington:<br />

Citizen/Ship, and LA Blacksmith.<br />

The Museum will treat the group to a workshop having to do with<br />

the current exhibits. We hope you will join us as this field trip is<br />

always a treat.<br />

Live Long and Prosper<br />

“Are all herbs equal?”<br />

Mr. Muwwakkil, a fifth-generation herbalist in line with his<br />

great uncle, Dr. Alonzo Kinnebrew, physician and herbalist to<br />

Dr. Booker T. Washington of Tuskegee University, will discuss<br />

ways to improve and maintain better health from a holistic<br />

perspective. Topics include stress management, weight loss,<br />

diabetes, menopause, libido, high blood pressure and<br />

cholesterol management.<br />

Obtaining and maintaining high levels of health and vitality have<br />

become increasingly difficult in today’s environment of pollutants,<br />

chemicals, and stress. Live Long and Prosper encourages people to<br />

develop better eating habits as well as incorporate plants and herbs<br />

into their diet to help contribute to maintaining good health.<br />
