SLOVAK KARST NATIONAL PARK

Slovak Karst National Park is the largest karst

area in Central Europe and is the second youngest

national park in Slovakia with an area of 346 km 2 .

It was declared a national park in 2002 and since

1973 this extremely valuable nature environment

with perfectly developed karst features has

been preserved and designated as a preserved

landscape area. There are 1,100 underground spaces

and the caves in the area of Slovak Karst were

included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1991

together with caves in the Hungarian territory.

KRÁSNOHORSKÁ CAVE

Krásnohorská Cave is a unique creation

of nature listed in the UNESCO World Heritage

List. It is designed for all adventurers

and adrenaline lovers. The cave is accessible

to the public only accompanied by experienced

leaders and with complete cave equipment.

It is dominated by the 34 metres high Rožňava

Cavemen Dripstone long considered to be

the largest in the world and recently included

in the Guinness Book of Records. The sightseeing

route of 450 metres is an extraordinary

experience during which you will become a real

caveman for a short while.

ZÁDIELSKA TIESŇAVA GORGE

The monumental karst gorge is the deepest

gorge in Slovakia. It is approximately 3.3 km long

and its limestone walls reach a relative height

of over 310 metres. The narrowest point of this

gorge, only 10 metres wide, was named the Zádiel

Gate. In the rugged gorge, there are remarkable

rocky, vertical walls and cliffs, which are colourful

in their shapes, bizarre and powerful. It was

created by aland-area brook called Blatnica

or Blatný potok brook. This stream creates

small waterfalls and cascades even today. Close

to Zádielska Tiesňava Gorge, there is the village

of Háj with a unique 15-metre high statue of

an angel, known from the Hollywood film Behind

the Enemy Line.

A unique Central European metropolis and the second

largest city in Slovakia. Košice is also the scene

of the oldest marathon race in Europe and the second

oldest one in the world. You will find here the longest

pedestrian zone in Slovakia or the easternmost Gothic

in Slovakia - St. Elizabeth Cathedral. The East Slovak

DOBŠINSKÁ ICE CAVE

Dobšinská Ice Cave ranks among the largest nature

unique and beauty sites of Slovakia. It is one

of the largest accessible ice caves in the world,

which is further emphasized by its location outside

the Alpine region. Since 2000, it has been listed

in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Dobšinská Ice

Cave is also known for its abundant history, which

corresponds to the great public interest in this

unique cave since its discovery. It is one of the first

electrically lit caves in the world, and as early

as in 1878 a cultivated mountain park was built

on the access road to the cave.

OCHTINSKÁ ARAGONITE CAVE

Ochtinská Aragonite Cave is one of the European

rarities and is one of the few publicly accessible

aragonite caves in the world. Its interior is

decorated with enchanting needles hanging

from the ceiling. These are extremely thin sinter

snows (stalactite formations), which, by their

variety, seem to embody the infinite variability

of nature formations and thus evoke the idea

of stone rain. The most precious aragonite

formation in the cave is the so-called iron flower

appearing like coral. The cave prides itself by its

registration in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

COUNT DIONYSUS AND FRANCISCA

ANDRÁSSY MAUSOLEUM

The architecturally unique Art Nouveau

building built in 1904 called the “Slovak Taj Mahal“

is the final resting place of Count Dionysus

Andrassy and his wife Countess Francisca.

In 1903-1904, the Mausoleum was built by Count

Dionysus himself, the last male representative

of the Monock branch of the Andrassy family, after

the death of his wife, Francisca née Hablavcová,

as a sign of their inseparable love. The Mausoleum

is clearly one of the largest architectural gems

in this country and is located near the beautiful

Mansion of Krásna Hôrka, which until 2012, when

it burned out, had been open to the public.

BETLIAR MANSION

The Betliar Mansion is our most visited and also

the most beautiful castle in southeastern

Slovakia. Situated on the outskirts of the village

of Betliar, it is surrounded by a beautiful park

with rare trees, romantic buildings, and wildlife.

It is a truly luxurious mansion built to represent

its owners. Betliar was one of the manor houses,

which after 1945 avoided war looting, and so

its interior and family collections have been

preserved to this day. Everything in the manor

house belonged to the Andrassy family, whom we

consider to be the most important aristocrats

in Europe in the 19 th century.

The brown bear is our largest wild beast living

in the whole territory of Slovakia, with the largest

population in the High Tatras. The bear watching

takes place during spring and summer tourist

seasons, which is from June to October, but the most

beautiful time is spring itself, when the baby bears

born at the end of winter make their first trips out

of the den together with their mother. In spring, bears

are most active, as they need to catch up the weight

they lost during hybernation in the den.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TRIP

This trip is not just about the brown bear, you will

see the game as Tatra Mountains Chamois, deer,

we will hear marmot and see the eagle fly. You will

get to know herbs and berries, and most importantly,

DOG SLED RIDE

The history of the Siberian Husky breed has

probably been written for over 4,000 years. It was

bred by the Chukchins - a hemispherical reindeer-

-hunting nation living in north-east Siberia. These

dogs were used for reindeer hunting and sledging.

We also have breeders of this breed in Slovakia,

they are dog-tandem racers, who even today ride

on dog-sled sledges during the winter months.

The programme is also suitable as canistherapy

- it uses the positive effects of the dog

on the physical, mental, and social well-being

of a person. This type of therapy is especially

recommended for people with disabilities.

We will take you north of our region, to a winery of a long history,

EXPERIENCING

Wine tasting, looking around the vineyard

VERITA WINES

Verita wines come from the northernmost vineyards

in Slovakia. The tradition of vine growing in this

region dates back to the 14 th century. The vineyards

are situated directly above the Laborec river,

at the southern foot of the Vihorlat Mountains

at an altitude of 250 metres.

CASTLE ABOVE THE VILLAGE OF VINNÉ

Viniansky hrad castle is a ruin of a Gothic castle

of the 13 th century near the village of Vinné.

The castle was probably built in the second half

of the 13 th century to protect the road that led

to Poland. Today the castle has partially preserved

Renaissance vaults, window and door openings

and parts of the original plaster. You can also see

cellars or traces of fireplaces.

BREKOV CASTLE

The Brekov Castle was built on a limestone hill

near the Laborec river. Originally, like the Castle

of Vinné, it had a protective function as it guarded

the north-south road through the valley. Today,

the castle is just a ruin, but various social

and cultural events take place there. The castle

is built on the andesite rock, which provides

a wonderful view of the surrounding area.

SPIŠSKÁ NOVÁ VES

Spišská Nová Ves is often referred to as

the gateway to “paradise“ of Slovak Paradise.

With over 750 years of history, it is an ideal starting

point for tourism lovers, admirers of Gothic

and Iron Road monuments, as well as monuments

listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in Spiš.

THE SMALLEST ZOO IN SLOVAKIA

The ZOO covers an area of 8 hectares in the forest

area of the Madaras Park. There are over 500 animals

representing up to 130 species, including endangered

animals listed in the Red Book. Children have

a playground, an inflatable castle, a trampoline,

horseback riding and a good time to relax

in the pastry shop. Monkeyland Rope Park is located

near the ZOO. It offers 4 circuits of varying intensity,

one of them for the smallest ones. Safety is ensured

by the so-called endless rope.

MANSION IN MARKUŠOVCE

The original appearance of the Renaissance

mansion with circular towers of the 17 th century

was changed in 1773 by a large reconstruction

in the Rococo style. The mansion was built

by the local noble family of Máriássy. Today

it houses an exhibition of historical furniture

from the Renaissanc to the Baroque, Classicism,

Biedermeier, Art Nouveau, and early 20 th century.

DARDANELLES SUMMER HOUSE

The French park is part of the Manor House

of Markušovce, at the end of which there stands

a charming summer house called Dardanelles. It has

an exhibit of keyboard musical instruments and, after

a recent reconstruction, the new parts of the exhibition

of accordions are open to the public. The summer

house is dominated by a social hall on the first floor,

in which frescoes with scenes of Greek mythology

excel. Today it is mainly used as a concert hall.

SLOVAK PARADISE

One of the most beautiful nature areas of Slovakia

bears its appropriate name due to its rare nature

values and beauties. Slovak Paradise consists

of preserved karst plains, deeply cut river canyons,

cloughs and gorges with magical waterfalls,

extensive underground world of caves and abysses

and abundantly represented fauna and flora. Tourists

have more than 300 km of marked trails and ferrata

trails. Cyclists may expect up to 150 km of marked

cycling trails and a true paradise will be discovered

by climbers and in winter also by skiers, crosscountry

skiers, but also by ice climbers.

KLÁŠTORISKO

A popular stop for tourists at an altitude of 760 metres

above sea level. was founded in the 13 th century. There

is a ruin of a Carthusian monastery which was a refuge

for the inhabitants from the assaulting Tartar hordes.

In Kláštorisko, it is possible to have a snack.

HORNÁD BREAKTHROUGH

The Hornád Breakthrough is an approximately

16 km long section of the upper part of Hornád river

from the mouth of the Great White Water to Smižany.

Hornád created a canyon valley here, the banks

of which fall from the side ridges and hills in places

with an elevation of over 300 m. Thanks to its tourist

history, the Hornád Breakthrough has a special position

among the nature values of Slovak Paradise.

SLOVAK OPAL MINES

The unique Slovak site - Slovak Opal Mines are the oldest

opal mines in the world. This is where Harlequin, Europe‘s

largest opal, comes from, now exhibited in the Vienna

Nature History Museum. The jewel of the Slovaks

with unique colouring was worn by many important

queens in their jewelery. After almost 100 years, the

mines are open to the public; you may take part in

an adventure hour circuit with guides who will offer

you a complete historical and geological explanation.

In addition to the rare opal, you will see mining tunnels,

halls, an extensive mineralogical collection of mining

tools and discover the ways in which the most beautiful

gems were mined by miners in the distant past.

SOLIVAR PRI PREŠOVE

In the third largest city in Slovakia - Prešov - you

will find the most significant salt deposit in the east

of Slovakia with a number of preserved technical

monuments related to salt mining. As early as

in the Middle Ages, salt springs were rising here,

from which salt was extracted. In 1572, mining

began here. Flooding the mines with water turned

them into a huge underground lake, which in 1752

required the introduction of a new technology such

as pumping brine in leather mosses using a gaple,

a pump powered by horses or oxen.

SLOVAK TECHNICAL MUSEUM

IN KOŠICE

The Slovak Technical Museum as the only museum

of technical focus in the territory of Slovakia

provides a comprehensive view of the history of science

and technology. Being the main centre of museum

documentation, it manages an extensive collection fund,

initiates care for selected technical monuments in situ

throughout Slovakia, and provides expert assistance

in their preservation and restoration. It documents

the contribution of Slovakia and its personalities

to the development of world science and technology.

A number of original exhibits are presented in exhibits

and exhibited collections. To date, the Museum has

collected over 33,600 items, many of which represent

irreplaceable values.

World Heritage List. Dobšinská Ice Cave is also

known for its long history, which corresponds

to the great public interest in this unique cave since

its discovery. It is one of the first electrically lit

caves in the world, and as early as in 1878 a cultured

mountain park was established on the access road

to the cave.

Orechová Cellar processes grapes from its own

vineyards grown on an area of 54 hectares.

The wine-growing lines belong to the East

Slovakian wine-growing region and are

planted on the south-western slopes of the Vihorlat

mountains. The Vihorlat mountain range was

formed at the end of the Tertiary as a result

of extensive volcanic activity. The rare volcanic

andesites are the geological basis of vineyards

in the wine-growing village of Orechová. Orechová

wine has a unique taste and is unique, thanks to its

geographical location and local climatic conditions.

medieval sports activities such as archery or fencing.

In the Information Centre you may refresh yourself

TARZÁNIA

The amusement park, which is built in the trees,

consists of 32 different obstacles and almost

180 metres of cable cars. Your child is playing

challenges that improve his/her skill, balance,

CHUTE

The children‘s toboggan, the first of its kind

in Slovakia, has been bringing adventure driving

experiences for the whole family for almost

20 years. At this point, children may safely

learn what adrenaline means. Located in close

KOŠICE CHILDREN‘S HISTORICAL

RAILWAY

Košice Children‘s Historical Railway was built between

1955 and 1956 as Young Pioneer Railway. Later, they

were established in Prešov, Plzeň and other cities

of Czechoslovakia. However, only the one in Košice

has survived to this day. The route is 4 kilometres

long and runs through the picturesque Čermeľ Valley.

At the end you will find the Alpinka Recreation Zone,

where you will find a restaurant, a large playground

and a rope park - Tarzania. Go back to history

for a moment and enjoy a 1956 locomotive ride.

DINOPARK AND ZOO

Dinopark is part of the largest ZOO in Central

Europe with more than 280 species of animals.

In the theme park of an area of 5 hectares, you will

be transported to the primeval world of dinosaurs,

the giants ruling this planet. Children will have fun

and at the same time they will gain new knowledge

STEELPARK

training rock of the Čermeľ Valley has gained

dates back to the beginning of the 20th century.

On the stone wall built by the local mountaineering

community in the 1980s, you will experience

the basics of climbing, abseiling, and climbing

HORNÁD CRUISE

Hornád River springs at the eastern foot of the Kráľova

hoľa hill. You can navigate its various stretches

up to 145 km long, from the lightest one, where you

can be carried by the water stream, to the moderate

one, where you already need a good physical condition

to manage the rafting without problems. The river

flows through Slovak Paradise National Park, through

the Ružín water reservoir from where it continues

eastwards to Košice and further away to Hungary.

During the rafting between Malá Lodina and Košice,

you can admire the nature, enjoy the rafting

on the tide, but also adrenaline while passing through

the Tahanovská vlna wave.

TASTING THE CRAFT BEERS

Unique taste and golden color .. what is it?

Beer has an important place in Košice. The building

of the oldest pub in Slovakia and the fifth one in Europe,

one of the successful breweries is still standing. Today

there are six craft breweries in Košice, which offer

dozens of local beers. The local brewer will tell you

listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The pride

of the city is represented by the second largest

church in Slovakia - St. Jacob‘s Basilica, which

hides the highest late Gothic wooden altar

in the world in its interior by the legendary

woodcarver Master Paul.

SPIŠ CASTLE

This is the most photogenic locality in our

destination that has not excapd the attention

of the CNN or the National Geographic. It is one

of the most valuable historical monuments, the pride


complexes in Central Europe. It is not surprising that

Spiš Castle is also included in the UNESCO World

Heritage List. Preserved castle ruins at the top

of the travertine hill, Spiš Castle Hill dominates

the wide surroundings and one of the most valuable

historical monuments of the whole country. It is also

a well-known film site - for example, the film Dragon

Heart was directed here by Rob Cohen in 1992.

The season at Spiš Castle usually begins on April 1

and is open to visitors until the end of October.

SPIŠSKÁ NOVÁ VES

Spišská Nová Ves is often referred to as the gateway

to “paradise“. Slovak Paradise. With over 750 years

of history, it is an ideal starting point for hiking

lovers, admirers of Gothic and Iron Road monuments,

as well as the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Spiš.

On the largest lenticular square in Central Europe, you

will find some rare surprises, including the Church

of the Assumption of Virgin Mary with the highest

church tower in Slovakia (87 m). The church bells are

still a symbol of the town even though the history

of bell-making in Spišská Nová Ves started to be

written by Master Konrád. In 1357, he founded the first

Gothic bell-making workshop in Slovakia.

In the unique environment of the Sub-Vihorlat

forests, in the village of Ruská Bystrá, there is

the easternmost representative of all the Slovak

wooden churches listed in the UNESCO World Heritage

List - the Greek Catholic Church of the Transfer

of the Remains of St. Nicholas. The church

was built in 1730. It rises on a hill in the middle

of the village and stands out on a height amiidst

the village and is prominent in colour against a green

background of the surrounding huge trees. A unique

place of peace, where in the shadow of a slim church

surrounded by majestic nature, you will devote

yourself to meditation on the meaning of life.

CASTLE OF VINNÉ

The Castle of Vinné is a ruin of a Gothic castle

of the 13 th century near the village of Vinné.

The castle was probably built in the second half

of the 13 th century to protect the road that led

to Poland. Today the castle has partially preserved

Renaissance vaults, window and door openings,

and parts of the original plaster. You may also see

cellars or traces of ireplaces. In the castle, you

may get acquainted with various medieval crafts

(for example, foundations of blacksmithing, weaving,

carving, pottery or masonry). It is a magical place,

which in addition offers beautiful views of the East

Slovak Lowland.

The tower of the Roman Catholic Parish Church

of the Assumption of Virgin Mary is 87 m high. It is

the highest bell tower in Spiš and has got five bells

in it. The oldest one of them comes from the 15 th century

and the largest one weighs 5,320 kg. Climbing

155 stairs opens a magnificent view of the longest

lenticular square in Europe and the unique panorama

Nová Ves and the region of Spiš. The tower

Place of Wishes or the Memorial Homage

to Master Konrád reminds one of the importance

of the first Gothic bell-making workshop in Spiš

(and at the same time the most important

in Slovakia), founded by Master Konrád in Spišská

Nová Ves. A half-bell is part of the memorial,

which invites visitors to express their wishes

and send it to the heavens by giving the bell a symbolic

ring. There is also one of the oldest bells cast

in Slovakia at the turn of the 14 th and 15 th centuries.

Slovakia, which captures almost every visitor

is surrounded by medieval walls with a length

of the city is represented by the second largest

church in Slovakia - St. Jacob‘s Basilica, which

hides the highest late Gothic wooden altar

in the world in its interior by the legendary

that has not excaped the attention of the CNN


valuable historical monuments, the pride of the whole

country and one of the largest castle complexes

in Central Europe. It is not surprising that Spiš Castle

is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Preserved castle ruins at the top of the travertine

hill Spiš Castle Hill dominates the wide surroundings

and one of the most valuable historical monuments

of the whole country. It is also a well-known film

site - for example, the film Dragon Heart was directed

by Rob Cohen in 1992. The season at Spiš Castle

usually begins on April 1 and is open to visitors until

the end of October.

CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

IN THE VILLAGE OF ŽEHRA

Unforgettable white jewel in Spiš, whose ancient

tower of the 13 th century is covered by a wooden

dome of an unconventional bulbous shape. The interesting

thing is that the Church of the Holy Spirit

has been preserved to this day in an almost intact

medieval form. The oldest building in the church

is the late-Romanesque stone baptistery

of the 13 th century, which is no longer used, located

next to the altar. Among other things, the church

is exceptional for its rare medieval wall paintings

from five periods from the end of the 13 th to the 15 th

centuries. The Tree of Life is the best known scene.

Ice Cave is also known for its long history, which

corresponds to the great public interest in this

unique cave since its discovery. It is one of the first

electrically lit caves in the world, and as early as

in 1878 a cultivated mountain park was established

on the access road to the cave.

Spišská Nová Ves is often referred

to as the gateway to “paradise“. Slovak Paradise.

With over 750 years of history, it is an ideal starting

PONDS OF SENNÉ

Ponds of Senné are a protected bird area and one

of the most important ornithological sites in Central

Europe. A nature trail starting in the village of Senné

leads through an area consisting of a system

of ponds, meadows, and wetlands. There

are observation towers suitable for bird watching

and the surrounding nature. In addition to common

waterfowl species such as heron or duck, one can

also see here e.g. the rare Sea Eagle, the Great

Cormorant, the Spoonbeak, the Crested Grebe

or the Little Crake. The Lower Zemplín region is

the place where the Royal Eagle nests - you can also

see nesting couples.

PRIMEVAL FOREST OF VIHORLAT

The East Slovak “Sea” Zemplínska šírava is

surrounded by the rare Vihorlat Mountains.

They are part of the Vihorlat Primeval Forest,

a nature paradise still untouched by man.

Together with three other forests in eastern

Slovakia, six other in Ukraine and five old

forests in Germany, it is part of a single entry

in the UNESCO World Heritage List - Carpathian

beech forests and old beech forests of Germany.

The starting point for the Vihorlat beech forest is

located by the unique Lake Morské oko (Sea Eye),

which is the third largest nature lake in Slovakia

after the Štrbské and Veľké Hincovo pleso lake

in the High Tatras.

MEDZIBODROŽIE

Medzidrožie is a real island surrounded by three rivers

and connected with the surrounding world by only

a few bridges. Its character resembles a small Amazon.

Its river network is part of the Tisza River Basin.

The Axis is the Bodrog River, formed by the confluence

of Latorica and Ondava, which drains the entire East

Slovak Lowland. The length of its flow in Slovakia is

about 15 km. In the area of Mezibodrozie, there is a wide

range of plant and animal communities. There are

two national nature reserves and ten nature reserves,

which in terms of the area acreage represents

one of the highest concentrations of the network

of preserved areas in Slovakia.

BETLIAR MANSION

The Betliar Mansion is a majestic hunting lodge

surrounded by a beautiful English park. In its interior,

visitors may appreciate a gallery of paintings,

a library, original antique furniture and exotic

collections. It is the only mansion in Slovakia whose

interior remained intact after World War II.

ČERVENÝ KLÁŠTOR AND PIENINY

Under the Pieniny, in the shadow of the Three

Crowns, there stands a Carthusian Monastery,

known as the Červený kláštor (Red Monastery).

It was built at the beginning of the 14 th century

during Historic Hungary. Today it is a museum

and tourist attraction. The river near Červený

Kláštor enters a beautiful canyon called the Dunajec

Gorge. The Dunajec rafting on traditional wooden

rafts is the biggest tourist attraction.

AQUACITY POPRAD

AquaCity Poprad is a world of fun, relaxation and rest.

The Aquapark includes 13 outdoor and indoor

pools with thermal water with a temperature

of 28° C - 38° C, water slides, and over 350 water

attractions. The water in the thermal pools rises

from a depth of 1,300 m, it is cooled by a technological

process from 50° C to 36° C to 38° C and contains

more than 20 different minerals beneficial for human

health. It helps with problems with the musculoskeletal

system, blood circulation, nervous system,

and also has beneficial cosmetic effects. The pools

have a stainless steel surface to minimize the need

for chlorine. UV disinfection is used for water

disinfection, which is gentle on the skin and eyes.
