2.3.3 Energy PotentialsThere are various sources of renewable heat presentin Amersfoort that will play a role in potentialpower supply. These are soil energy, geothermal,surface water, riothermal heat, residual heat fromindustrial sources, innovation and other sources.The soil structure of Hoogland is such that smallscalemini heat networks fed by soil energy canmeet the heat demand locally. The advantage ofthese mini heat networks is that homes can also becooled in the summer. A study commissioned bythe Water Board, showed that collective surfacewater energy and heat and cold storage are technically,financially and legally feasible. Tapping ageothermal source requires major investments andcareful procedures and implementation. If geothermalheat is responsible and can be used on a largescale in Amersfoort, a substantial part of the heatdemand of Amersfoort can be met with this in thelong term (The Municipality of Amersfoort, 2019).Similar to the facts in Chapter xx, the potentials energygeneration values in Table xx were taken fromthe Heat Atlas per hectare and the final values arereached by multiplying these values by 70 hectares,which is the total ground surface area ofBieshaar Zuid, Bieshaar Nord and De Biezen(Netherlands Enterprise Agency, 2015).Table 2.3.3: Energy generation potentials of BieshaarZuid, Bieshaar Nord and De BiezenSourcePV Electricity 10,7Amount(TJ/year)Closed-loop system heat storage 113,9Closed-loop system cold storage 31,7Open-loop system heat storage 172,5Open-loop system cold storage 172,5Riothermal 2,819
