ABOUT NTARUPT
The North Texas Alliance to Reduce Unintended Pregnancy in Teens (Ntaruptpronounced
“interrupt”) was founded in 2014 to improve the quality of life for
children, families, and communities by preventing unintended teen pregnancies.
Ntarupt aggregates the community resources teens and parents need to prevent
unintended pregnancy - a root cause of poverty - by 1) Educating youth &
parents/guardians with evidence-based and informed curricula and training
youth-serving professionals to respond to youth issues; 2) Mobilizing community
resources, including faith groups, healthcare, advocacy efforts, and youth; and
3) Driving public awareness through direct messaging and outreach on the
effects of teen pregnancy and available prevention resources. Ntarupt and its
community partners have educated 4,500+ teens and parents since July 2015,
predominantly in five very high birth rate zip codes.
Talk About It Dallas, an initiative from Ntarupt, is a judgementfree
resource for reducing unintended teen pregnancies in
Dallas. They’re here to help teens and parents find ways to:
+ Normalize conversations about sexual health
+ Raise awareness about the scale and longterm
impact of teen pregnancy in Dallas
+ Provide medically-accurate reproductive health information
+ Guide the community to find safe,
accessible, and affordable resources
+ Promote positive sexual health habits among teens

ABOUT THE EVENT
More than 150 teens, supporters, and community leaders are expected to
attend Ntarupt’s, 5th Annual Student Film Competition. Ntarpt’s student
film competition is unique in :
• Recognizing and rewarding students artistic expression
• Elevating teen voices so the community can better understand their realities
• Encouraging community organizations to provide teens with the evidencebased
education and access to healthcare they deserve.
Ntarupt will premiere the finalist short films produced and edited by Dallas
High School Students on “what you wish an adult would have told you about
sex.” The premiere will be preceded by a red carpet entrance for actors,
teens and supporters, and followed by a panel discussion emceed by “JAZZE”
GOODSPEED MAXIE, Community Affairs Director & On-Air Personality - Radio 1
Dallas & 97.9 Tha Beat.
This year, Ntarupt is preenting its Community Advocate Award to Gary Ahr and
honoring Dallas’ Lincoln Humanities and Communications Magnet. The event and
fundraiser will be held on February 9th at the Wyly Theater at 3 PM. The juried
competition awards the top 3 winners with a scholarship/cash prizes and the 1st
prize winner will also win an additional $500 for their school.

Teen Pregnancy Stats
In 2016, Texas ranked 4th in the U.S. in teen births and 1st in repeat teen births.
Of the 20 largest counties in the U.S., Dallas has the highest teen birth rate.
In Texas, Dallas County has the highest teen birth rate of any major Texas county.
Dallas zip codes having high child poverty also have high teen birth rates.
Every three hours, a baby is born to a Dallas teen mom, which in 2016 amounted to
3,059 teen births in Dallas County – enough to fill 140 kindergarten classes.
