Annual Report - Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank

Welcome
At the end of this 30 th year, I am both proud and humbled to be
president of the board of directors of Greater Pittsburgh Community
Food Bank. Joyce Rothermel, co-founder and leader for so many years, is
a personal friend. In fact I owe my education on hunger and my resolve
to work toward its end to her. The organization that grew under her
leadership has become known throughout the region for compassion and
excellence. Upon Joyce’s retirement, I convey the gratitude of all who have
had the honor to be associated with her.
This year revolved mostly around the transition to new leadership, which
I am very proud to say was handled by all with
integrity and grace. Our new CEO, D. Jermaine
Husser, is a food banker of considerable
experience, gifted with a great combination of
creative and practical thinking. His first months
have been spent helping the board and staff
evaluate the Food Bank with outsider eyes,
which I think will yield some new ideas. I like to
think that Joyce built the granite foundation,
and now with Jermaine we can build the future.

Some things have never changed, particularly
our resolve to always remember our primary
mission – to provide food to those who need it. The ways we go about it
will surely adapt to the times ahead: this Food Bank has been nothing if
not innovative and resilient.
The second part of our mission is to mobilize the public to end hunger.
For that we need you. Please remain our partner in this fight for a healthy
future. In fact, let’s make this the year we commit not just our dollars, but
our hands, hearts and voices to a hunger-free nation.
