ANIMAL SCIENCE PATHWAY
ANIMAL CARE I
2 Semesters
This course includes instruction in animal handling and
restraint, medical/scientific terminology, immunology/
physiology, sanitation, safety, nutrition/health, domestic/
exotic breeds and species, genetics, cellular biology, animal
behavior, conservation/ecology, evolution and animal traits.
Course meets California science standards. High school
students may apply this class toward graduation credit.
ANIMAL CARE II
2 Semesters
This course combines classroom instruction with internship in the
field of animal care. Students will study animal health and safety,
behavior, diagnostics, grooming, ecology, conservation and
canine CPR. Internship sites include zoos and nature centers,
veterinary facilities, kennels/stables, pet stores and groomers.

PROFESSIONAL INTERNSHIP
ANIMAL SCIENCE
2 Semesters
This practicum and internship course allows the students to apply
academic and career readiness skills in a workplace environment.
Instruction will combine standards-based classroom instruction
with extended on-site industry experience. Students will learn
all aspects of Professionalism, and apply 21st Century Skills of
Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity and
Problem Solving in a real world setting.
PRQ INT
VETERINARY SCIENCE
2 Semesters
This course prepares students for post-secondary level education,
leading to careers in animal science, biology, zoology, and/or
veterinary science. Students will complete various science projects;
perform academic research and participate in lab experiences to
prepare for advanced study.
