Topiary Care
Buxus or Box topiary has been used
in English gardens for centuries to
create form with timeless elegance.
Recently, pests and fungal diseases in
Box topiary and hedging have become
more widespread, to avoid losing your
topiary almost overnight there are
some things to watch out for.

Evidence of pests such as the Box Tree
Caterpillar can be seen by looking for pale
yellow eggs on the underside of leaves
- left untreated your topiary could be
stripped bare in no time. Thankfully there
are treatments available with no
adverse effects to other wildlife.
Box Blight is a fungal infection which will
initially appear as dark spots on the leaf
and streaks on the stems. The blight can
be sprayed to help control it but it is most
successfully treated with regular maintenance
using both ground and leaf fertilisers, clearing
dead leaves and sterilising your tools.
