To say the last few weeks have been a bit of
a whirlwind would be an understatement,
none more so that our whistle stop trip to
Istanbul last week.
Ross, Heather, Foxy and I spent three days
in the City where we got the opportunity to
watch the Bahcesehir College Europe Cup
game as their guests of honour, a game our
new brother club eventually won. However
the trip was also to meet all our new BAU
Global and Bahcesehir College family, and
family is exactly what we were made to feel.
It was truly a pleasure to spend more time
with Mr, Enver Yucel, and to be introduced
to so many fantastic people throughout his
education and basketball organisations. I
can tell you now that everyone is extremely
excited about the new partnership with
the Raiders, and in Turkey, Plymouth is now
one of the most famous places in the UK,
something that has all come about because
of our new partnership.
Istanbul is a beautiful City, very friendly, very
welcoming, and full of culture, history and
architecture. But you don’t need to take my
word for it, because as a Raiders fan, and
hopefully now a Bahcesehir College fan,
there should be plenty of opportunities and
excuses to visit for yourself, as I’m confident
there will be numerous trips back and forth
for our two teams to train and compete
together in the coming years, and we’d love
fans to joins us along the way.
What I will say though, is that although the
food and hospitality has been first class,
I think it might be a few weeks before I
venture to a kebab restaurant…who said
you couldn’t have too much of a good thing.
Today we welcome the Glasgow Rocks,
the current BBL League leaders, to the
Plymouth Pavilions, which means this is
going to be a tough game. However,
we’ve shown already this season that when
we play as a team, we can beat anyone,
and that’s precisely what we did when we
travelled to Scotland last month. Getting
the W at the Emirates appears to be a
rarity this season, but get the W we did,
and therefore Rocks will be out to exact
revenue today.
Since we met Rocks in Glasgow we’ve
evolved as a team, with Ryan, Mike and
now Gary joining the fold. Although the
possibility of making the playoffs isn’t yet
beyond us, and that’s still the main focus,
the remainder of the season also provides
a great opportunity to start to put together
a roster with next season in mind, hence
the late addition of Gary on transfer
deadline day.
Gary is the first player we have recruited
with the assistance of our new partners at
Bahcesehir, with PJ working closely with their
scouts and coaching team to bring Gary
in, and from what we’ve seen so far, he’s a
terrific addition.
However, it’s #followthefox time, so recharge
your drinks (Raki if you’re one of our new
Turkish supporters), and prepare to make
lots of noise!! We need a win to stay in the
Playoff hunt, so we need our Green Army
behind us all the way.

Good afternoon and welcome to the
Pavilions for this BBL Championship game
against the League leaders Glasgow Rocks
who come into this game sitting with 10
wins and 3 losses.
One of those losses was against us at the
end of January, but the Rocks have not
lost a game in the league since then.
Glasgow Rocks have a very solid team
who play a very patient unselfish style of
basketball. They are playing with a lot of
confidence right now and last weekend in
Glasgow they overcame Worcester in
overtime.
This game is a hugely important game
for both teams, but for different reasons.
We are trying to claw our way up the
league table into a playoff spot and for
Glasgow, the league title is now theirs
to lose.
Our last game was away to Manchester
and it proved to be every bit as tough a
game as expected and we weren’t helped
by the absence of Will and Ryan.
Manchester have been very competitive
in many of their games only to fall in the
closing minutes, so it was always going to
be tough. Trailing by 12 at the half we
really had to dig deep in the second half
and finally got the game won in overtime.
Today I hope to have a fully fit squad for
this big game and would like to welcome
Gary Talton to the team for his first BBL
game. I’m sure he’s going to help improve
the team on all levels.
Just looking at the results from the last
couple of weeks we can see that every
game is being been competitively fought.
Therefore, we need to make sure that
we are tough to beat at home by putting in
some good performances, whilst trying
to dig out some wins on the road!

The PBB Club had been close rivals with the
Kanaries in both the local league and the
Southern League as well as the National
Founders’ Cup in which they had reached the
Semi-final on two occasions only to lose out
to their local rivals in 1983. They agreed to
join forces to help establish the Raiders and
one of their leading lights, Dave Mills, agreed
Ringham and Bache eventually signed for
the Raiders and each spent three seasons
from 1985 to 88 in the green uniforms. Bache
played 62 times for Raiders averaging nearly
14 points per game while Ringham appeared
64 times averaging 9 points and dishing out
134 assists.

I conducted a survey of our supporters on
who their favourite player has been and best
starting 5. After lots of great interaction on
the Raiders Supporters page and with over
40 different players put forward, we came
up with a favourite all time Starting 5 for

We welcome new signing Gary Talton who
joins to the end of the season. Raiders need
him and the whole team to gel together and
really get wins on the board if we have any
chance of making the play offs. We saw in
the last home game what can happen if we
don’t play the full 40 minutes.
After controlling 3 quarters against Phoenix
and looking comfortable leading 66-56,
we allowed them to hold the ball, get the
vital rebounds and steal the win. Rocks come
here this evening as League Leaders but
after beating them away at the end of
January, we know we have the capability
of doing that again.
Good Evening Raiders fans.
Since the last program the Academy team
faced off against Truro College in the AOC
league with the result in favour of Truro, we
played some good basketball but Truro had
to much for us with some very experienced
players who scored the ball very well.
At times we played some fantastic team
basketball but just not on a consistent bases
to keep with Truro in the second half after
keeping it close for the first two periods of
play.
Our next game is against Exeter 2 where
we look to pick up our second win against
them after a convincing win at City College
put with a few key players unavailable it
should be a very close game as we head
on the road.

RETURNEE
The Cheshire Phoenix game brought two
former Raiders’ players back to the Pavilions.
Louis Sayers, who was named as Captain
and Ben Mockford fresh from his part in GB’s
exciting victory over Germany the previous
Monday. Sayers performed as always, with
plenty of heart and with a killer touch from
outside the arc but Mockford seemed
disinterested in the game, ambling about
with a miserable look on his face. Maybe he
was tired from the GB weekend or carrying
an injury!
Phoenix had only 8 players but all were
heavily involved and were used sparingly
by coach Ben Thomas, who paraded the
sideline throughout the game, often using
referees’ Christian names when ‘discussing’
a call. Should that be acceptable, especially
when a Technical warning was issued
to PJ for a minor step or comment out
of line?
NEW FLOOR
The new playing surface looked smart and
the Fox logo took pride of place in the centre
circle. There are more floor logos to come,
probably before the next game, with the
BAU Global one no doubt prominent.
SPECTATORS
Although not a sold-out arena there was,
nevertheless, a fine atmosphere with the
chanting particularly good to hear. The
3-point cards and Foxy paws were very
much in evidence when required and quite
a large number did wear the green T-shirts
which had been given out at the previous
game. It would be good to make that a
regular match day attire. A reminder of how
good the green T shirts made the arena
look, on the stage side for a change! Try
to make a habit of wearing with pride.
TABLE OFFICIALS
We do tend to have a fairly small group of
the red shirted Table Officials appointed to
our games so it was good to welcome a new
face at the last game as Ethan Phillipson
carried out the scorers’ duties.
We do hope that Lindsay Chapman will
return to the fold soon and wish her well
for recovery from her recent hospital stay.

Plymouth Raiders picked their third win in
the BBL Championship this evening in an
extremely challenging overtime game
against the Manchester Giants.
The opposition were in the lead from the
start, but a tie at the end of the fourth
quarter sent them into overtime where
Raiders took control and were victorious!
Five players made double digits during the
game, including Matt Scott and Josh
Wilcher with 20 points. Hassan had a
double-double this evening, making 22
points with 12 rebounds.
This evening’s game was Raiders first win
since their triumph last month against the
Surrey Scorchers. Manchester Giants are yet
to pick up a win, despite having a good
run in their recent games.
Both teams were desperate to pick up a win
and were determined to go to any length
to be victorious.
Smith won the tip for Raiders with Hassan
picking up their first points. The quarter
continued with both teams trading baskets
but Giants retained their lead throughout.
Scott ended the quarter with a two point
jump shot which was followed by another by
Jones from the Giants. The first quarter
ended after a great effort from Paul James
side 23-23.
The second quarter started with a good
run from the hosts, who stretched their
lead to six points with just over five minutes
remaining. Their luck continued and they
were in the lead by 12 points before the half
time break, 50-38.
After the break, Giants stood their ground
as they still had over a 10 point advantage
with over six minutes remaining. Raiders luck
changed though at the end of the third
quarter as a three-point shot by Jonuska
helped them to tie 64-64.
The quarter ended 68-64 to the opposition
but Raiders still had a bit of fight left!
The same scenario continued going into the
fourth and final quarter but with just over
four minutes remaining Raiders caught up
and they started to trade baskets.
Jones hit a three for the Giants with just over
one minute to go, but another by
Jonuska made them tie 82-82, which sent
them straight into overtime.
At the start of overtime Raiders began to
control the game. A free-throw opportunity
within the last few seconds enabled them to
extend their lead to six points, allowing
them to pick up their third win!

FOUNDATION
PROGRAMME
It’s been a busy few weeks as usual away
from the pro court and our community
programmes continue to grow week on
week.
Active Ageing is still attracting new members
which is making for some great sessions
under the guidance of Coach Paul Nicholson
and the students of City College Plymouth.
These sessions provide opportunities for the
over 60’s so get up and get active through
Walking basketball but its not just about
throwing that rubber ball around…..at the
end of every session our participants are
treated to free refreshments or lunches!
Our Little Ballers sessions are as popular as
ever and provide the perfect environment
for our smallest of ballers to get a taste for
the game. Each session caters for boys and
girls aged 3-6 and with the focus being on
fun, there’s something to hook every child
that walks through our doors.
Where the older generation are treated to
tea and cake, our Little Ballers end every
single session with some fruit which is very
kindly donated by the Co-op in Stoke Village
each week.
The Plymouth Raiders Central Venue league
is coming to an end for this season with all
sessions finishing during the week prior to
the schools Easter holidays. Our city wide
CVL sessions have gone from strength to
strength since September and our final
tournaments of the season really
showcased the learning of the players over
the past 6 months. We have even seen some
of our players selected to represent
Plymouth Raiders Development and play
against teams from far and wide as they
represent Plymouth Raiders and the city of
Plymouth.
Whilst the Central Venue League may be
taking a break for the summer months, that
doesn’t mean our players have to as we hand
over to Plymouth Raiders Development who
will be hosting a number of Summer League
programmes to cater for all ages – for any
information on the Development summer
