HEALTH CENTREEstablished in 2017, the NCC Health Centre is run by a team of health care professionals, including a Nurse Practitioner,a Registered Nurse, counsellors, and office administration. This health initiative provides our international students withaccess to more immediate health care as the need arises.The Health Centre is proving to be a huge blessing to our students - whose health and well-being are top priority!Holly Han - con’t from pg. 7“The academics were very demanding. Eachclass was 75 minutes long. It’s quite a longtime for one class and you’re doing thatevery single day for four courses during onesemester. It was very challenging for sure.“I joined sports teams which was a great wayto interact with Canadian students. Whenyou’re playing sports, you don’t really needlanguage. You need to communicate butthe communication is done through bodyactions and athletic performance. It made itso much easier to develop friendships withCanadian friends. That gave me confidence.You had practice, you had games, you hadtournaments…I missed a lot of classes. Ihad to catch up a lot. I think high schoolwas the time I studied the most in terms oftrying to keep a balance between the two.That balance was really good, but to keepthat balance I had to put out 100% for sure.”“I was good at biology and chemistry .I was not good at physics, but I endedup majoring in physics in university!”Following high school, Holly attended theUniversity of Toronto to obtain her undergraduatedegree in Physics Specialist, witha major in Math.In the middle of these studies, Holly tookthree years off to travel. She hiked in theHimalayas, went on an expedition in the Kyrgyzstanmountains, and walked cross countryfrom the southern tip of South Korea to theborder between South and North Korea inthe spirit and hope of the reunification ofthese two countries.With her wanderlust satisfied for a time,Holly returned to Toronto and completedher undergraduate studies. She moved onto graduate studies at McGill University,and will complete her PhD program in GeoPhysics this year.She continues to stay active and participatesin intramural soccer at McGill University as areferee, a supervisor, as well as a player. Hollyalso has a passion for the traditional Koreanmartial art of Tae Kwon Do and earned her5th Dan - the highest rank achievable in thissport. Seven years ago, Holly earned herMaster Instructor certificate.“Life at NCC definitely helped me. It sentme on to the next step - university - not onlyacademically but in terms of the disciplinethat I developed here. The education wasvery demanding at NCC. I pushed reallyhard. This lifestyle and being committedto keeping a high level of academic andathletic performances really helped me todevelop as a person who can be committedand determined to do what I want to do…what I set as a goal.”Holly’s future plans include living well, continuallylearning and developing, and tokeep loving.“To be aware of what’s going on and alwaysobserve what I do and how I interact withpeople. I want to really use my skills that Ideveloped through this PhD training as ascientist. I want to contribute my work tosociety and bring my passion into it. Thereason why I chose to go into GeoPhysics isbecause I wanted to combine my academicbackground which is physics, with my personalpassion, which is the outdoors andgoing out into nature, which is the earth. Iam combining my passion outside academiathen at the same time I am contributing toacademia and science.
